I love Hazell, she’s gonna have some great games in a JMU uniform. I like Ouderkirk’s game too, just a solid all around player with high IQ. McDaniel will see some 3’s start to drop and that will change things but think Tinsley will start stealing some of her minutes.

Yeah OtoP seemed convinced that McDaniel is only placeholding a more experienced player’s spot. I assume that’s Tinsley.

RE: WBB Game 2 vs Buffalo
Well a disappointing loss, the Dukes just dug themselves too deep into a canyon in the first half to overcome. major improvement in the second half, that was the sort of basketball I expected from the team. Give the Dukes a lot of credit for not folding and just mailing it in for the second half, they came out and fought to get the game close. As Mrs ParentofJUMMRDs said she will take this game as a great learning experience for the team, particularly the younger players. Hopefully Coach O can use this as a great teaching moment for the future.

Hazell looks to be the real deal, very impressed with her along with Steph O. Also good to see Breanna T play today.

Next game against the Who's on Thursday, anyone have any idea what the TV situation for that will be> maybe ESPN3 or ESPN+

Go Dukes!!

Looks like Thursday's game is on the ACC Network.

I believe it is on ACC Network Extra, which is the online provider so will be streamed over the net and not on the ACC Network TV channel. Bottom line, if you get the ACC Network via your cable/satellite/online provider then you will have access to the ACC Network Extra streaming.

To my knowledge the only major provider who still doesn't offer ACC Network is Comcast/Xfinity. Online providers like YouTube TV offer it. I think both DISH and DirecTV do. And most of the cable companies other than Comcast/Xfinity do.

I had to stop listening after the first half. Glad the women decided to show up and play in the second half. It’s a humbling experience to be blown out on your home court. Hope Coach O and staff can use it to help the team learn to avoid the kind of lapses the team seemed to experience last year. The team seemed completely unprepared to match the intensity of Buffalo during the first 20 minutes.

The team’s youth and large number of newcomers has me concerned.

ACC Network Extra and ESPN+ are different. If you get ACC Network TV channel then you get ACCNX streamed games for free. ESPN+ is a subscription package open to anybody at 5 bucks per month. The UVA WBB official schedule indicates ACCNX which would be consistent with most all ACC WBB games and especially home non-conference games (with noted exceptions being something like Notre Dame hosting UConn which would wind up on either the ACC Network TV channel or perhaps ESPN or ESPN-2)

Sorry to go off topic towards Game 3, but what's up with UVA? Have they lost a bunch of players due to opting out because of COVID or something?

0-2. Lost by 26 pts in the opener, 60-34, to Central Florida. Followed that up losing at home to EZU (not known for WBB), 54-51. JMU lost at JPJ Arena last year. Need to get this one.

UVA fans are calling for Tina Thompson’s job. She’s lost most of her players and her recruiting classes have been mid-CAA caliber. Tinsley transferred to us when Tina got the job at UVA

How'd we wind up playing in Charlottesville 2 years in a row? Thought the Hoos were pretty good about doing home & homes with our women's teams.

And of late (since Kenny left in 2016) they have also struggled late in seasons to make the NCAA tournament. I realize there is always reasons (excuses), but I hope we will return to the dominant CAA program again, not just one of the top 2 or 3.

I said no such thing. Please refresh your memory. What I said was that Coach had to use who he had available because he had 4 players in quarantine and two coming back from ankle injuries. I was pretty impressed with McDaniel in the second game.

RE: WBB Game 2 vs Buffalo
Apparently all the team needed was for me to not watch and they performed much better! Seriously though, getting the 33 point deficit down to 8 in just over 10 minutes is no small feat, as is outscoring a very talented opponent 27-6 in a quarter. Whatever Coach said at halftime seemed to get the team into gear. This was the first game for some of the newer players, and Buffalo (as mentioned) is very well coached and brought back the majority of their team from last year. I think small and mid major conferences are going to get the short end of the NCAA At Large stick this year (even more so than other years), so I would like to see JMU WBB improve each game and hit their stride heading into the CAA part of the schedule.

I agree. But Buffalo may be better than all of the CAA this year. That’s all I was saying. I think it’s pretty well-known how I felt about losing Kenny Brooks. We have not maintained quite that level of excellence since his departure. But we’re right there.

I was starting to think maybe you weren’t reading the boards anymore after you didn’t respond to some questions in the other thread. Glad you’re still around!

My bad in misinterpreting that comment as McDaniels vs grad transfer. I clearly didn’t understand what you meant.

...except for her shooting I presume. She was 1-9. That sounds pretty bad until compared to the 1st game where she was 0-9. Hope she snaps out of that funk soon.

A lot of things don't get on the stat sheet. I like her defense. She reminds me of a (forgive me) slimmed down and quicker Devon Merritt.

She is in the right position and for the most part has good shot selection. They just aren't falling right now.
