Drexel's teams have almost always been the exception. These girls DO know how to play, and that statement goes back 13 years now.

I don't know what Coach Mallon told them at halftime but the adjustments worked. Furious 3rd quarter comeback to tie the game at 39 after 3 quarter and they pulled out the 3 point win with a solid 4th quarter. Drexel outscored JMU 40-20 in the final 19 minutes of the game.

JMU had trouble with the full court zone press in the 2nd Half....well that and Mrs. Timer being named Fan of the Game.....

no doubt about it. mallon outcoached the crap out of that jmu guy. coach dillon used to undress those guys too going back to the caa final down there.

we switched to the press and they had no answer. the refs weren't calling offensive fouls and they still refused to go to the basket. jmu should've won by 30.

the play we executed at the end was beautiful. you just don't see that enough anymore. i didn't even think washington was open when nihill made the pass. their answer to try and tie was just throwing up threes like the rest of the game.

i worry about delaware because they actually seem to know how to play. we took a run at them so they went right inside. we had no answer.

Awesome. I missed that. That's definitely why Drexel won, LOL!!!

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2020-2021
Here's how the standings will look after tomorrow plays out....

If Towson and Drexel win.....
1 Delaware
2 Towson
3 Drexel
4 JMU

If Delaware and Drexel win....
1 Delaware
2 Drexel
3 Towson
4 JMU

If Delaware and JMU win....
1 Delaware
2 JMU
3 Towson
4 Drexel

If Towson and JMU win
1 Delaware
2 Towson
3 JMU
4 Drexel

So JMU and Drexel can finish anywhere between 2nd and 4th
Towson can finish 2nd if they win or 3rd if they lose.

Drexel and JMU will both need to win, but both will be rooting for Delaware to beat Towson.

The top 4 of the CAA is playing at a different level than the rest of the division. Delaware came out of nowhere and are having an incredible season. They're clearly the favorite but any of the other 3 can win the CAA as well.

With W&M dropping their season, Delaware is the only team that will get to play an opponent that played the previous day. I believe that Delaware is also the only CAA team, men or women to play a full 18 game CAA slate. They might have a shot at an at large bid.

Not sure what the WNIT is thinking this year with the 32 team slate and no automatic bids. I'd like to think that the CAA has enough of a reputation that they'll include at least one of the top 4.

Yep, and they're against the worst team in the conference UNCW.....Hmmmm, I wonder why??? Towson can't finish first anyway and will be 2nd or 3rd if they win, but could fall to 4th if they lose. I guess they're using these games to stay fresh for the tournament but also to help them get a potential WNIT bid.

I wonder what they chances are that Drexel could get Hofstra or Charleston to come to the DAC next weekend to make up some games?

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2020-2021
Drexel loses today to JMU and Delaware is up big on Towson in the 4th quarter. So assuming Delaware holds on to win....
1. Delaware (16-2)
2. JMU (9-6)
3. Towson (7-5)
4. Drexel (8-6)

Spots 2-4 are not locked in yet. Towson has their makeup games at UNCW next weekend. They can overtake JMU for 2nd place with a sweep. But it could backfire for them. If they split with UNCW, Towson would be 8-6 and fall into a tie with Drexel. Drexel and Towson split last weekend, and if you go down the standings, the first common opponent tiebreaker goes all the way down to Northeastern, where Towson was 1-1 and Drexel was 2-0. This could all change pending other makeup games. But as it appears now, if Towson wins both next weekend, they finish 2nd, JMU 3rd, Drexel 4th. If Towson loses 1 or 2, then JMU is 2nd, Drexel 3rd, Towson 4th.

Northeastern now has a huge lead on Hofstra and these teams play again on Tuesday. If Northeastern sweeps Hofstra, they could move from 8th place up to 5th, and Hofstra could fall down to the 7 seed. If these teams split, then Hofstra finishes 5th and Northeastern finish as the 7 seed. It appears as I see it that host Elon is locked into the 6 seed and Charleston and UNCW are locked into the 8 vs. 9 game.

The reason I'm trying to figure all of this out is because it could be in Drexel's better interest to finish in 4th, so they won't have to open up with Elon on their home court. Elon gave Drexel a lot of problems with their size.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2020-2021
#35 for jmu played a great game today. we don't have an answer for somebody who can actually use their size like that. it puts the pressure on our offense to be perfect. nihill was 4-20 and washington was 5-15. we're actually a bit lucky we stayed in the game because i thought jmu played a much better game.

leonard played well. i feel like she gets good looks and has trouble converting. she was much better today which hopefully she can keep up on days when the guards are better.

our rotations are a little confusion sometimes. sweeney played her season high 6 minutes. she only played in 4 other games this year so it was strange to see her on the floor down the stretch in such an important game. maybe coach mallon is looking for somebody out of that young guard group to differentiate themselves. hyduke and borcky give us about the same things.

the tournament should be next weekend. only good excuse is the caa doesn't have the personnel to run both venues. otherwise they should just get it over with.

Not surprised we lost, but a great win Saturday. A split seemed right for both us and JMU. Seems like thats all we do on these back-to-backs. Avoiding JMU until the final is a good thing. I would definitely like to avoid Elon, though they really are not that good this year. Delaware will be quite a challenge if we make the semis.

One interesting things about the brackets this year, which could benefit the 4/5 seed, is that the 4/5 game is being played first. Usually higher seed plays first to get the advantage of the extra couple hours of rest and the ability to scout the next game with the previous game behind them.

In the evening games, the 2/7 game is being played before the 3/6 game.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2020-2021
NET rankings (RPI):

1. Delaware- 81 (22)
2. Drexel- 117 (103)
3. Towson- 127 (63)
4. JMU- 143 (80)
5. Elon- 164 (83)
6. Northeastern- 193 (128)
7. William & Mary- 212 (207)
8. Hofstra- 222 (202)
9. Charleston- 262 (249)
10. UNCW- 299 (288)

With the women moving to NET this season, RPI is probably about done and meaningless here. I think NET shows there will be no at larges and Delaware is the only team that likely goes to WNIT if they dont go dancing. Us and Towson would be on the bubble. CAA has always done well in RPI. Looks like we are showing we gamed the system. Will need to schedule better and win games to climb the rankings.

Notice how the NET is clearly skewed to benefit the Power Conferences and screw over Mid-Majors.

The CAA's WBB RPI this year is ranked 6th, just below the Power 5 and better than the Big East with UCONN. In the NET the CAA is ranked something like 15th. You're probably right about the WNIT this year since it's only 32 teams.

RPI is garbage. Despite our successes with it, I dont think that is a system to be praising. At all.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2020-2021
Standings & Seeding Update (Ignoring W&M):
1. Delaware
2. JMU (if Towson loses 1 or 2 to UNCW) or Towson (if Towson sweeps UNCW)
3. JMU or Drexel (if Towson loses 1 or 2 to UNCW)
4. Drexel (if Towson sweeps UNCW) or Towson (if Towson loses 1 or 2 to UNCW)
5. Hofstra
6. Elon
7. Northeastern
8. Charleston or UNCW
9. Charleston or UNCW

As I mentioned earlier, I'd actually prefer that Towson sweep this weekend and Drexel be the 4 seed and play Hofstra.

Agreed and I think they will. UNCW is not good. Towson can give JMU fits. I think I would rather play sucks than play JMU, even if Sucks is better this year. Hofstra is not better than Elon either, so avoiding them too is gravy. I think if JMU has to beat both Elon and Towson, they will be beat for the title game. Thats a tough a draw

Towson loses by 10 points tonight to UNCW so That drops Towson to the 4 seed and pushes Drexel up to the 3 seed. Drexel's reward for finishing 3rd is that they get to open up the CAAT against Elon on their home floor.

They'll play Elon on Thursday night at 9:30 PM.

I am happy they don't have to go up against UD so soon. Elon and JMU are winnable.

Tough draw for us. Elon is problematic for us. Them with JMU back to back just about guarantees we are not making the finals
