Kent State vs. Alcorn State
Golden Flash Basketball begins today with KSU hosting Alcorn State. It may take a little bit of time to get familiar with this team.

But before we talk basketball here’s to the players, coaches and all other team personnel staying healthy during this unprecedented time. Perhaps the fact that the ball will be jumped at 2:00 is victory #1 for both teams.

Go Flashes!

I am afraid that is going to be commonplace this season.

Things are messy and weird right now for sure. Seems like crazy inconsistencies around the country. One thing interesting with basketball, since their rosters are so much smaller it's entirely possible teams reach immunity. I believe antibodies last something like 3 months? So each basketball team is likely to only have one or two outbreaks during the season before most of the roster is immune.

Here's an interesting article about the inconsistencies.

To use a sports analogy we are late in the third quarter and the score is

COVID 70, College sports 3

Watching the ESPN etc. tickers there are more COVID updates than scores.
So much for testing and contact tracing. The pros have plenty of testing and they are starting to lose control too. The NBA and NHL bubbles worked but other things don’t appear to be doing the job (baseball did okay but that’s the ultimate social distancing outdoor sport).

I’m afraid that article exposes the issue. The coach was more concerned about the rules being unfair for his basketball teams competitiveness than the health of his team etc. This year just coach the team the best you can and be grateful you even have some type of season. No sport is having a normal season and it’s probably time to quit worrying about. The NFL is consistent and they are starting to lose control. They have all the testing capacity in the world and testing and contract tracing seems to be on the verge of failing.

This is a "free" year in that nobody loses a year of eligibility. Everyone will just have to muddle through as best they can.
