The expected result, hope he flies up the pipeline as the season progresses!

Chase isn't on the 40 man roster. Cleveland has control of Chase for awhile. He would need to be added to the 40 Man roster in order to be called up and they will not do this until they are sure that he is ready.

Quote:Rookie Chase DeLauter, who was never technically in major league camp despite belting four home runs and hitting .520 in 25 at-bats, will not appear in any more big league exhibition games, Manager Stephen Vogt said.

“We couldn’t be more excited about what Chase showed this spring,” Vogt said. “The future for him is very bright. Very impressed with the spring that Chase had. It was really fun to get to know the kid and watch him work.”

This doesn’t fit neatly into the “Pro Dukes” thread, but Neil Shipley will be playing in the Masters this week as an Amateur.

While he is now in Grad School at Ohio State, I will be shouting a few “Go Dukes” at him on the course. It is my second Masters and I don’t think I could ever tire of this place. It is heaven on earth.

He will be a pro after the US Open I am assuming, so close enough. Nice part is his bio on the Masters website lists JMU before OSU.

I don't think I could be more jealous. Attending the Masters is one of those bucket-list things that are like "Yeah that'll never happen."

Chase is having a monster Spring. It will be hard to keep him in the minors if he keeps putting up numbers like he’s doing.
He's 100% starting the season in the minors. They have a logjam of 1/2-a$$ed players that they need to see if they can play at this level plus the Rule 5 guy they must keep on the roster all season. If a borderline talent has options he's gone, Kyle Manzardo has enough minor league time and ABs to justify not needing to go back to start the season but he was optioned 2 days ago. Chase didn't get any minor time in 2022 due to his injury and in 2023 had very limited minor league ABs, 164 ABS in A-ball and only 22 ABs in AA; he will be sent down any day now.
Chase is scuffling so far in AA, he's only 1-13 (.077). And for you Dukes out near Richmond you can get out to see him, Akron will be in town playing the Flying Squirrels through Sunday.

Shipley finished the first round at -1 and is tied for 17th in the Masters. He had the best score among the 5 amateurs in the tournament.

Well done.

Shipley is in the hunt which has to be his dream scenario.
He has lost several strokes on the greens which are super slick this week compounded by the gusty wind. He is losing strokes with the flat stick but so are the best players in the world.
I’m think I would 4 putt every green if I put forth my best effort.

Now if the announcers will say James Madison instead of Ohio State, I will be happy!

Went to the game last night, he was 1-4 with a walk and run scored. Came to the plate in the top of the 9th down 3-2 and had two men on, stung the ball hard but lined out. Frustrating, overall he’s 3-21 with 3 runs scored and no RBIs. They have him batting second, which will cost him some ribbbies, should be 3rd or even cleanup. I thought he played the field and ran well, covered some ground in CF and made some plays which is nice they’re still working with him in center and not just pushing him to RF or even LF. He also had a nice jump on the basepaths and would’ve had a SB if not for it being ball 4. It’s early yet, most bats are still cold, he’ll heat up and be in Columbus before too long.

Best hitter on the team often bats 2nd these days. And I’m not concerned with the slow start since he’s still hitting line drives. Plus he walks almost as much as he strikes out in the minors so far. That kind of discipline combined with his power potential will have Cleveland’s brain trust drooling.

He gets a nice mention in this article as a dark horse candidate to get called up this year:

https://www.mlb.com/news/candidates-to-b...g=38095451

Quote:Chase DeLauter, OF, (Guardians No. 1, MLB No. 29)
Speaking of injuries, foot issues kept DeLauter from playing a full season in his 2023 debut, but his numbers were undeniable: .355/.417/.528, five homers, 22 doubles, 12.4 percent K rate in 57 games. He kept up that momentum in the Arizona Fall League and was arguably Cleveland’s most productive hitter in Spring Training, despite not even being a non-roster invite. He’s at least a capable defender in center and right field, and his bat speed and strength should help his plus power play anywhere. The more the former James Madison star plays, the more he looks like one of the best prospects in the sport.

Chase struggled hitting last week in Richmond against the Flying Squirrels but he got his 1st HR of the season earlier tonight:
