CJ Gunn 4* shooting guard from Indy had UC on his final list.

CJ Gunn's scouting report from 247:

"Has solid size and smooth athleticism as a 6-5 shooting guard. Strong leaper off two feet which pays off on his pull up jumper and his rebounding. Prefers to go right and is primarily a straight line driver. Is a good three-point shooter. Average ball handler and passer. Is a conscientious defender."

Sounds like a good Keith/Harvey replacement. I would imagine the staff will be reaching out to both he and Duncomb.

Anthony Leal also had us in his Final 3 when Brannen came on and recruited him like crazy. 6'5" SG who was also Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2019-20.

Nice. It's not very often a local school with multiple high-level recruits you were previously in on fires its coach. This is potentially a golden opportunity. Let's hope we can take advantage.

Ugh. Don't we have enough of this already?

He is ridiculously defensive about his lack of tournament success.

I’d have to hear the audio in context...I’ve been around Mick and that is sorta his sense of humor.

He’s in the NCAA tournament and we are playing the portal tournament. He wins the internet this year.

He backed into the tournament losing his last 4 games with a team loaded with 4 star recruits . Good for him.

He left us with little talent in the lower classes and we paid the price this year. I guess he can "win the internet for that.

He took a team that fired a coach and has done better than the guy who replaced him. And the cruddy PAC12 is lots better than the crappy AAC.

Get me some audio on that comment.

Want to slam him fine...not a good look 2 days after the brackets were announced. He’s playing this week. We are worried about having to fill 7-8 spots again.

With the people they are recruiting chance of him still being at UCLA in 2 seasons is higher than Brannen still being here.

He's a good coach. He's absurdly defensive about his lack of tournament success.

He had one foot out the door. His last two recruiting classes weren't really better than his first two at uc. We are suffering from that.

Find the audio and we will see. Sarcasm doesn’t translate well on the internet and solitary quotes on Twitter can be framed any way required to elicit a desired response.

Now that we're far enough out to look at what those classes ended up being it's pretty telling. When we had our good run of recruiting that led to the back to back 30 win seasons we got guys that were skilled versatile basketball players- Troy, JE3, Jarron, Gary, Tre, etc. For whatever reason we decided to move on from that and start focusing on athleticism at the expense of basketball skill; KW, Logan, Eliel, Hardnett.

Mick did a lot of good here and took the job when no one wanted it; I'll always be appreciative of the rebuild he did here. But he definitely took his foot off the gas at the time where we really could have taken it to the next level by recruiting off of our success and new facilities.

No way to tell but if he has stayed here I feel pretty strongly that we’d be playing in the tournament this week.

He left players here and he found guys that worked. Not his responsibility to leave guys that want to play for the next guy or who the next guy wants to use in his type of system.

I think someone already posted some info on this in one of the melancholy hoops overlapping threads but thought I'd plop it here to make it official. You're in my prayers Chris - I know what surgery and recovery looks like after helping/caring for my wife through it most recently.

I wish him well for a successful surgery and complete recovery.

And it is interesting because many of us wondered what happened to him after a very strong start with UC early in the 2019 season. I think he was among the national leaders in field goal percentage before the injury and demonstrated a lot more ability to score than we ever saw post-injury.
