RE: Laughable scores...Men's Basketball Edition
Mississippi State 74, Kentucky 73
Kentucky's nightmare of a season ends at rock bottom. They were so bad they lost to both Mississippi schools. The last time I could find Kentucky lost to Mississippi was in 2011 (ironically that season they made the Final Four). I had to go back to 2009 to find UK losing to the bottom of the barrel in the SEC (even worse, it was in Lexington)! That was during the Billy Gillespie era (that's a name that no one in Kentucky ever wants to hear again)!

So far, UCLA, Washington, Cal, and Oregon State have been featured in the Laughable Scores section on the losing end from the Pathetic 12. Could we get the entire conference in here in non conference play before New Year's? Maybe the conference should take a lesson from Duke and just cancel their non conference games and save the embarrassment.
How many more losses before Bill Walton stops saying "Conference of Champions?"
I'm trying to figure out where to seed Oregon State in the Schmolik 64 when I came across this game! I had completely forgotten about it because who would have thought Oregon State would win the conference or make the NCAA's?
Portland is ranked 327th in the NET right now. There are only 347 teams playing this season. This game was played AT Oregon State.
So a team that lost at Portland at home is your Pac-12 Tournament champions? Come on, this is the definition of laughable. Forget Illinois playing the SWAC or MEAC champ in the first round, can we get Oregon State instead?

I think it's the 12-line. Should they be lower? Probably. I think a 13 is more fair. But, consider the number of AQ's who were not at the top of their conferences before their tournaments. That shunts the likes of Oregon State, Georgetown, and, should they pull it off, Cincy further up.
Oregon State and Georgetown will be interesting to compare against Colgate, who will probably finish around that NET 10 spot with a Patriot League-only schedule. I suspect the major conferences will see their seed levels retain to their NET rank or improve and the opposite for the non-majors. Colgate and Loyola will be the ones to watch. Loyola will likely drop to one of those death lines between 7-10 despite a 10 NET/9 KP/20 RPI, while Colgate 9 NET/86 KP/9 RPI will probably go 13/14...maybe a 12 just to place them somewhere?
The 12-13 lines will be some interesting picks. Along with G-Town, Oregon State, and Colgate, there's Winthrop, UCSB, and I have to believe Ohio is going to shift up. Quite possible there's a few 12/13's making it through to the Sweet 16.

Oregon St and Georgetown will be on the 12-line.
The play-in teams will get bumped up to the 11-line.
