Ohio St now 1 game away from not being eligible for the title game

Has the committee established this already? I never saw any article regarding minimum games required?

Big Ten title. Right now the most games they could have is 6. If they fall down to 5, they aren't eligible for the Big Ten title game.

I do think a 6-win threshold should hold for the playoff. They won’t add any hard-and-fast rules though, certainly not this late in the season.

That's a biggie for the MW. San Jose State is unbeaten at 4-0 but has not had two games canceled in a row.

Sucks that games can be canceled literally hours before kickoff.

Should be a deadline, like Saturday morning at 7 AM or something.

This brings us to 18 canceled or postponed games this week, tied with last week. Though we also have two new games that were created, so a net loss of 16 games so far.

Wut? So if a schools gets a bunch of positive test results back at 8am, they should keep playing because the 'deadline' has passed? That's not very smart.

Just got this email:

San Jose State Spartan Football vs. Boise State
CANCELED

Due to an upward trend of COVID-19 cases and contact tracing within the Boise State football program, the Broncos are unable to participate in the scheduled football game on Saturday, November 28, vs. San José State. Therefore, the Mountain West is canceling the game and declaring it a no contest. There is no plan to reschedule the game.

The virtual game day benefits for Spartan Athletics Fund members are canceled as well.

Yes, just keep those guys out and play, unless you truly cannot field a team.

Ridiculous to cancel so late. Pure contract-tracing nonsense. Just keep the afflicted players out of the game.

No it’s not ridiculous. What is ridiculous is insisting they play.

I would like to see a rule that the games go forward once we are within 6 hours of kickoff, unless a team suddenly does not have enough people to play as defined by players actually who have tested positive.

The contract tracing is far too nebulous and uncertain as to its effects to cancel a real-world football game at the last minute over, IMO. You're basically telling a big pile of people who are right there ready to play that they can't, because of undefined and likely extremely low probabilities of a disease being passed on and actually harming someone. Heck, we don't even know if not playing will result in less people being affected, etc. than playing.

How do you not understand COVID and contact tracing 8 months into the pandemic??? Sad to see that you care more about a GAME than you do peoples health.

How inconsiderate of them to interfere so late with my choice whether to watch that game in the safety of my den or choose to watch some other game. If players aren't willing to risk their health they have no business playing the game in the first place. Like it or not, football is they single most important activity for Americans, and the game itself must be protected or it will never survive.

The game is a tangible loss. Whether anyone's health would be affected by playing vs not playing it is entirely unknown.
