Terrible news, but you pretty much expect to lose a RB every year.

18. Brady White Memphis 1275 yards 17 TD 4 INT 5 SACKS.

Haven't found Ridder's stats yet.

Bearcat Rushing Yards 2020
Ridder 250
Doaks 250
McClelland 115
Ford 111

It's been reported that Charles McClelland tore the ACL in his other knee which obviously will end his season. I feel very sad for him, but we've still got some depth.

Covering a ******* punt when our punter rarely has anyone do anything but raise their hand and signal fair catch.

I’m sorry but it is silly having a guy like him on the punt coverage team.

The third phase of the game...and can be just as important as the other 2. McClelland isn't a starter and coach wants skilled, good players on Special Teams too. I don't have a problem with him being out there and I bet McClelland doesn't have a problem with it either. Stinks it happened again but let's hope his recovery is quick.

I'm with you. Presumably the coaches thought he was the best man for the job. And as the #3 RB on a team that also features a QB who's best attribute is running the ball, I'm sure McC was more than happy and eager to play on special teams. If he wasn't healthy enough to play, that's another thing but this was to his other knee. It's a freak injury that just struck twice unless he for some reason has vulnerable ligaments in general which would presumably keep him from playing RB or actually football period.

Each game is a war. Shoot your bullets. What are you going to tell the kid - "we know you want to play after sitting so long now that you are healthy and you give us our best chance to win by playing special teams, but we're saving you on the bench in case we lose another RB to injury so that we can play you more then"? That's practically inviting the kid to enter the transfer portal.

It sucks but it's nobody's fault. UC will get along and hopefully, McC will be able to recover again to be as good as he ever was.

Been traveling to visit family. Just saw the news on McC. That sucks for both him and the team. He brought some electric quicks to the backfield and I was hoping to see him get more opportunities. Hoping and praying for a speedy recovery Charles!

Now he’s gone for another year and a position group that is a little thin just got a whole lot thinner. I thought it was silly in real time during the game thread when I saw him out there on that punt. Thought it was stupid as hell when he was being carried off the field with a blown knee.

McClelland is one of the fastest players on the roster and was excelling in that role. There aren't 3 players on the roster who could do what he was doing at that level. Good teams emphasize special teams and have good non-starters on those teams. It's unfortunate but part of football. Hopefully Montgomery is ready to step into that change of pace role.

Fick is an understudy to Jim Tressel. Tressel coached teams emphasized strong special teams play. Mick C was valued in that role to help make it a stronger unit overall. So it was written, so it shall be done.

Yep, it's a critical phase of the game and often the difference between winning and losing. There aren't 20 guys on that roster who can give you the combo of speed and elusiveness Mac provides, and you can tell that by watching him run. All that said, he tore the other knee which he could have done playing anywhere on the field. If you were trying to protect a guy because his other knee wasn't healed it's one thing, but that was not the case. I think the bigger question is some guys anatomically have deficiencies in their knee construction even so far as not having acl's at all from birth. He may have a condition which predisposes him to these types of injuries. I myself had/have a knee condition which makes bone chips and breaks in the knee more likely due to softer bone conditions. There are also issues with tendons etc. depending on your body chemistry. My guess is he may have some of that. Sometimes you get extreme gifts like speed et. al, but there are also downside to it. Here's to hoping he gets back to the field. Sometimes a repaired knee with circumstances is better than what the person had originally. Maybe this occurs. Munoz had awful knee issues, and he went on to a long and stellar career.
