He thoroughly dissects and disembowels the presentation that Jeremy Martin just gave. Since Crook sent his email on 9/29, I am rather shocked that Martin went ahead and presented it. I got both of these links from the Save Tribe Swimming website.

https://616e0124-2790-47d0-96a7-e87abf76...93332c.pdf

EDIT: I also meant to say that the Swimming website has a "Pledge To Not Donate" list. Interesting that just since its inception on October 7 it already had more than 470 names. That is a lot of money lost to the College.

I don't think the Crook PDF will have the effect you think it does. It does a good job of presenting the position of the sports that were cut. I don't think it brings any new information to light. If that's the case, then I have a hard time seeing it cause the administration to reverse course.

Mr. Crook's letter does far more than present the position of the sports that were cut. It makes clear that the Pictor Group 2025 "vision" of out-resourcing other CAA football and basketball members was a mirage. It wasn't in the cards before the pandemic. Moreover, the athletic department and its hired guns have been unable to demonstrate that cutting seven sports makes this possible during or after the pandemic.

A huge question for the athletic department at this point is whether the Pictor Group actually took the time to look at other options. The prize evidently was getting to the dance, multiple times. One vivid example of another path occurred in 2018:

74 - 54. #16 vs. #1. Retrievers not just hobbling, but burying Cavaliers. A headline grabbing national story. How did even the possibility of this story come to pass? Hint: it had nothing to do with the CAA.

Seriously, the athletic department needs to come clean regarding whether, when casting about for "opportunities", the Pictor Group looked beyond that of dominating the CAA.

What metrics did the consultants use to determine the CAA was the most cost-effective home for Tribe athletics?

Did they find admissions data to indicate potential students, or even athletes, were attracted to W&M because of competition with Hofstra, Stony Brook, Charleston or any other CAA member?

Was there information that major donors would pull the plug if W&M looked at changing conference affiliation and gave up football games with Towson and Elon, or basketball games with Hofstra and Northeastern?

It clearly wasn't the Pictor Group's judgment that present CAA membership is particularly stable. The document makes reference to this potential. The previous vision didn't make any sense. Mr. Crook was able to pull back the curtain. The funding for the vision wasn't there and it wasn't the fault of swimming and track.

Maybe the most important question to pose to the "interim" and his boss -- why would you cling to a vision that has no chance of execution?

The amount of money that the Pictor group was paid and what they presented showed that they didn't do any real research at all. It would have taken way more research and time to make the conclusions that they made. They would have charged two or three times as much if it was an actual consulting engagement. It is clear to me that it was a classic case where the agenda was known before the engagement started and that they were paid to give an answer that was aligned with Huge and others' agendas.

But...but...the data points are all there. You can't question the research! Look at the headers and footers! Ha ha

In one of the letters/articles posted on this board the statement was made that the "Pictor Group" was a group of five FEMALE former Athletic Directors, what are the chances that HUGE was friendly with all of the principals of this consulting group before she granted them the consulting conrtracts????????????? How many contracts did W&M give to the Pictor Group during the Huge era?

And what are the odds that Huge will be working for the Pictor group very soon?

For gosh sakes, Martin has just taken over an impossible situation. Let's give the guy a chance! So there's
a letter from Roger Crook taking Martin to task somebody has pointed out...I don't know Crook nor I would venture does anyone on these pages.... nor do I really care

Maybe he'll do a sensational job and maybe he will not. At this point he deserves a decent opportunity.

RE: Introduction to New Interim AD Martin
Bubba, he inherited this mess that she made. He didn't create it. What Martin is doing is another classic case of what you do when you are in a messy situation. He's telling everyone that we are screwed. He then shows the "facts" that were used to make the decisions that were made. Then he's going to say, "What, this isn't what we really wanted?". Then he's going to tell everyone what choices need to be made and push the implications back on us, the fans/alumni/parents/professors to solve it.

He's going to tell us:
We are broke. That's just the situation we are in
We have to cut something.........or we need a munch of really big donations (tens of millions)
If we don't get the money we are going to have to cut sports at some point and seven may not be enough
We may have to cut football
We may have to drop way down in conference (not that a conference will be open to taking us)
Now go get the money or we're back to where we started

Not once will he ever discuss why we have such a fund raising shortage, why we mismanaged the budget, and why so many good people associated with the history of the college were fired or pushed to the side. Just rememeber that there is a law suit already and there could be more given how someone ran the department.

Good idea, pull a Rocco instead of acknowledging the very likely situation where Huge funneled money to her ladies, all former ADs, and highly likely on very friendly terms, for a piss poor product staged to support Huge's agenda.

You're funny

It's very likely that the Pictor Group was paid to come to a particular conclusion. Making it sound like a hen party with no basis detracts from the credibility of that accusation. There are plenty of things to be mad about Huge's time at W&M without inventing things.

Who called it a hen party? Just stating facts. Since empirical research evidently shows that females get no love in athletics, I find it most interesting that Pictor Group is loaded with individuals who share Huge's sex, motivation, ideology, and (ironically) current situation. Failure to acknowledge that extremely unique position is weird. I mean, how many athletics consulting firms are loaded with women? Doesn't strike you as curious that Huge would turn to and send our donations to them?

How many bids did she get? Was it not competitive? Did they have desired conclusions before faking their way through the process? I mean, that would be illegal.

Per linked article, "the most under-appreciated challenge to the long-term health of college athletics is aging fan and donor demographics."

Throw in esports competition and a pandemic. Dr. Martin and mid-major ADs are all trying to sled up hill.

Introduction to New Interim AD Martin
Jeremy Martin has taken a huge challenge and attacked it with energy plus passion. His efforts are to be commended while the outcome unfolds
