RE: One less MAC bowl game for 2020
If WMU somehow fell apart and finished 4-2, I couldn't see Prez M footing the bill (and risking spreaders) for some Boise or Arizona trip. Not after losing out on Notre Dame's $1M coupled with the cost of testing.
The Quick Lane Detroit bowl cancelling was a blow to the MAC.
Much of the bowl fun is also about the experience, for both fans and players. Figure no fans or band. And then the usual activities planned for players will certainly be highly restricted.

Resulting from a combination of further bowl cancellations and a couple MAC schools not wanting to spend more money (and risk) sending a 3-3/4-2 team across the country.
That is what happened to the MAC. They went first and then the 800-lb gorillas decided to take charge and the MAC ended up, completely helpless and hopeless.
Completely wasted FB season."
I esp. feel for UB which has a really good FB team, with a superstar RB, etc. and we have a 6-game season...
I believe your analysis is slightly flawed, but the true answers will not be known until the season is completed.
- The MAC playing more games, particularly against each other, isn’t going to move the needle. Maybe we get some consideration for the access bowl if Cincinnati loses, but if they win out, a longer MAC season does nothing in that regard.
- The MAC playing more games, will not get us more bowl bids, as several of the bowls the MAC would’ve been tied to are cancelled. And I would expect even more cancellations announced in the next 2-3 weeks. Best guess is our ceiling is 2 bowl games.
So, if we’re not in contention for the playoffs or access bowl or additional bowl bids and we made the decision to protect the health of student-athletes, I don’t view that as a wasted season.

RE: One less MAC bowl game for 2020
For those of us who are wondering: What are our top bowls (say top 2 or 3)?
We know Bahamas and Detroit are canceled. Where will our MAC champ and runner-up go?
I don't have a clue.

Most projections have us pencilled for the Arizona and Potato Bowls.

I think this will become more commonplace over the next several days, particularly among schools not involved in conference championships or title games. No fans, no band, and probably very few social activities (if any) at the bowl location for the players, which is half the fun.
And this is a P5. The G5s like us also have huge money pits to consider.
If WMU loses to Ball State, I wouldn't mind if we sat out the bowls. Send the kids home, keep 'em safe.

I'm now thinking that the MAC just might be happy with two bids, one for each of the MACC schools.

Coastal, ULL, Marshall and App are great gets for any MAC team so if they are the opponent I don't think any MAC school turns down that bowl. SDSU, Boise and SJSU are also good gets out west. If any other G5 is the opponent there isn't much to prove IMO. I could see 4 MAC teams footing the bill at most.

Add USAFA to the list of potential good bowl teams out west

I think you'll end up seeing Buffalo, Ball St., WMU, and Kent St. going bowling with some prodding by ESPN so they can fill their bowl slots.

I think Kent has a good shot with their lopsided team of terrific offense and poor defense. But if Toledo wins I think they have a better resume. More games played. Better head to hear game vs. EMU, and both losses being close and rather flukey to other 4-2, 5-1 MAC squads. Also Toledo was the only squad left out last season... Ending this year on 2 wins, with a bigger budget than Kent, Toledo will be wanted by some bowl. Again, that's IF they win.

Looks like the MAC got pushed out of the Potato Bowl. It will be Tulane vs Nevada. That bowl usually is a MAC tie-in.

App is taken as they are going up against North Texas. Coastal is in line potentially for a NY6 at-large if they beat ULL. If Marshall beats UAB, I’d bet we play either the MAC champ if it’s Buffalo or either CCU (if they don’t get the NY6 bid, or ULL if they do or if ULL wins the SBC. No matter what, Buffalo will get a solid opponent if they remain ranked.

WMU HC was quoted as saying he’s heard only the MACC participants will be bowling this season. Makes sense and very understandable.
