Ward didn’t get any help from Murphy…and he’s another guy I would’ve loved to see play with a coach like Heath.

Brandon Nazione was another impact JUCO. Same with Willie Mangum, Ty Toney, And Yeikson Montero. None of them were stars, but they all showed they were legit D1 players. Don’t forget Bryce McBride either.

From my perspective none of the players listed are even close to Monty. Let’s look at Monty’s MAC stats at end of season. I think a JUCO can be a nice 6th man but I would go after transfers like Monty who have stats playing D1

…I don’t think anyone said otherwise? You’re arguing with yourself about that. You said we haven’t had any impact JUCOs, and I pointed out that we have.

Also, to say McBride “isn’t close” to Monty is silly.

No argument Sam. Agree that the players listed are impactful but not at the level to win a MACC.

I love McBrides game. He’s a heck of a competitor but my point is he’s still not as good as Monty. Players like McBride can not carry a team to a championship. Sure McBride will have his moments but not as consistent to be an upper tier guard in the conference. Noah and Monty can/are in the upper tier. McBride is a nice player though.

Which is a mixed bag as we can see from current MAC standings. Better off getting impact frosh or impact JUCOs to complement this class that fit into Heath's system.

I feel the transfer portal is less risky than a JUCO. If we finish top 4-5 in the MAC (I believe we will), Noah is going to attract a very high level transfer or high impact freshman.

Have we ever had a high impact JUCO at EMU?

Kessington Ward for one. By the way what makes you so certain that Noah will not enter the portal himself?

I will say this again you want to make sure you have scholies available for 2023 for Michigan high school class which is one of the best in years. Having said that perhaps the best mix is two grad transfers as is in one and done and two JUCOs or two highly rated high school players to make the 4 or 5 openings.

From my perspective, we need at least two transfers with Monty’s capability. Kensington was not a very good shooter. Monty >> Ward

Relationships are critical where kids choose to play ball. Noah has a great relationship with Heath plus he’s got the green light on the floor. Noah will stay if he feels he can win with Heath.

Creighton has run out of time and I’m afraid really good recruits may shy away because no championships or bowl wins in Creighton’s tenure.

Which is why you want to keep the Michigan high school pipeline open by signing some local players each year if you can. Because relationships are important.

Agree - there’s enough talent in this state to take all of the MAC schools to NCAA. Just need MAC to improve and become multiple bid league.

RE: Unofficial 2022 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
I know there have been some comments about Michigan D2 level junior college basketball. This year some of the teams have players with former D1 playing experience like Carrington McCaskill 6'8 FAU now at Henry Ford or Gary Solomon Jr. 6'5 LIU also at Henry Ford Jiovanni Miles 6'4 WI-GB may be the best of all. He is at Macomb Community. All of these players are sophomores.

I just watched a video of McCaskill. Definitely looks like legit forward to me. Adding him to a front line with Mo and Golson would be nice.

Within 2 seasons we'll be competing for the MAC championship! That's what great recruiters, and great coaches do! Look at Ohio U two seasons ago, they were picked dead last behind us! Look at Buffalo, and Akron! Heath is going to be A great recruiter! But plays a fun style of basketball!

Too much kool aid, sir. Sounds like you were dreaming before you posted this...

I have no idea how next season will be better than this season.

Miles is a real scorer. Kind of player that would replace Monty Scott at the SG. What separates Miles from Rice is that Miles has D1 experience and another year of experience. Rice did not.

I posted this when I saw us play Indiana, W Illinois, etc.....When I really thought Heath was doing a good job! We've regressed mightily since, getting embarrassed by 3 MAC schools by 20 points! Heath hasn't impressed me the last 5-7 games!

True although w/out talent a few good games ends up being only a few good games.

The rule of thumb is more and more games played the more accurate will the W-L record as teams tend to revert to their abilities.

So EMU and the Washington Wizards both fooled us. The Wizards were one of the best teams in the NBA after 10 games. Now... Don't ask...

Really shows the dangers of trying to predict based on 'small sample size.' Ramsey beat Cal in his 1st game and then things certainly flattened out.

One game does not make a season...

By the way, Monty has an O-rating of 94. That is below average (100 being average).

McBride is at 101.9, and is the more efficient/effective player.

Here is what I've been saying about the 2022 MI h.s. boys basketball class.

Lest I made a mistake, I did a search for "MI" looking for any reference to Michigan I could find, the state, UofM, MSU, etc. Rivals has their top 150 and NOT ONE is a Michigan High School player. Amazing.

Interesting Steve. Thanks

If we look at rosters around the Midwest, how many schools (UofM, MSU, Illinois, Horizon and MAC schools have players from the mitten ? Would be interesting to find out???

I'll put it on my to do list.

I've already checked UofM and MSU and their signings for Nov 2021. Neither school signed a player from the mitten.

This is the 2021/2 UofM roster. I count 4 players from MI. No stars. Most have GPA > PPG. (think the highest I saw was 4.5 ppg).
