RE: Spring 2021 Football Season Thread
I feel like the RMU game announcement belongs here instead of the other thread where it is being discussed. While I am not excited about the opponent, I will say RMU should be improved from 2018. 2018 was Coach Clark’s first season at RMU. In his second season, RMU went 6-1 in conference. The school is also moving up to the Big South next year so recruiting should have received a boost in 2020 from the recruits RMU landed as a NEC school.

The game won’t likely be close but I feel like JMU will face a better RMU team in Coach Clark’s third season. I also don’t feel JMU is as good this year as they have been the last four seasons. It is possible we don’t make the playoffs this year with only 16 teams participating.

In this one off season coming up - I can see why you'd be careful about booking too strong an OOC game. If JMU loses more than one game, it's "possible" they don't make the playoffs. Lose three, and I think they don't make the playoffs.

Normal seasons, that is not an issue these day with all the teams that make the playoffs.

While I may agree with you we are thin in some proven talent in some positions I disagree we're going to take a step back from the last four seasons. I expect this team to still be able to make a run to the NC game. We have the best backfield we've ever had, a solid line, good young receivers and most of our underclassmen are much more highly touted (and thus able to contribute sooner) than those who they're replacing. I think we should easily be in the Natty contention both in the spring and next fall. If anything NDSU is looking more vulnerable for us to take it from them.

RE: Spring 2021 Football Season Thread
I think it says a lot about the program if we finish top 5 this spring.

From DNR

On Saturday, Dukes coach Curt Cignetti announced redshirt junior defensive end Isaac Ukwu suffered a knee injury that will force him to be sidelined for JMU’s spring campaign.

Ukwu missed all of last year after he tore his ACL, partially tore his MCL and partially tore his meniscus in his left knee during a 2019 training camp practice.

Really feel bad for the guy. This is a huge injury for the team as well. Ukwu was likely a going to be a pillar for the defense.

Might have missed this elsewhere, it appears the FCS playoff committee has set Spring playoff dates. Championship game will be held in Frisco the weekend of May 14-16:

They say May 14-16, because the game is on the 16th but you need to get in line on the 14th to ensure not missing the 1st quarter. 03-shhhh

I think I would prefer Frisco in mid May versus Mid Jan.

Excited not to be freezing my @$$ off in the morning this time around. As far as I know there’s no excuse to have a 11AM kick off either.

Suspect the exact day and time will be driven by ABC/ESPN’s preference. Hopefully not too much competition for prime slots that time of year. Outside MLB not thinking of any other major events in Mid may.

RE: Spring 2021 Football Season Thread
If it happens will be a complete crapshoot as far as predictions go. Pre season polls will be even more worthless than usual..

Over 100 FCS players transferred up for 2020.
https://herosports.com/fcs-football-mont...rtal-bzbz/

2020 Top players (as in AAs, likely or possible 2021 draft picks) not playing Winter/Spring so far, including 7 of 8 Senior Bowl invites..
-NDSU QB Trey Lance- projected 1st round pick.
-NDSU OT Dillon Radnunz: Draftscout FCS #1 ranked OT, projected as high as 1st round, Senior Bowl invite.
-NDSU LB Jabril Cox- Was Draftscout FCS #1 ranked OLB, grad transfer & starting LSU. Projected mid round pick.
-UNI OL Spencer Brown- Draftscout FCS #2 ranked OT, Senior Bowl invite.
-UNI DL Ellerson Smith- Draftscout FCS #1 ranked DE, Senior Bowl Invite.
-Villanova OC Paul Grattan: Was Draftscout FCS #1 ranked OC, grad transferred & starting UCLA.
-Villanova WR Changa Hodge: Was Draftscout FCS #6 ranked WR, grad transferred VT.
-SDSU WR Cade Johnson- Draftscout FCS #1 ranked WR, Senior Bowl invite.
-JMU FS D’Angelo Amos (also 2x AA PR). Was Draftscout FCS #2 ranked FS, grad transferred UVA, starting nickel.
-Towson RB (2018 All Purpose AA) Shane Simson- grad transferred UVA.
-UCA CB Robert Rochell: Draftscout FCS #1 ranked CB, Senior Bowl invite.
-NCCU CB Bryan Mills: Draftscout FCS #2 ranked CB, Senior Bowl invite.
-Grambling St OL- David Moore: Senior Bowl invite.

Likely will be more pro prospects sitting out the Winter/Spring season.

2021 Top players/2022 draft not playing Winter/Spring, or Fall FCS:
-Montana AA WR Samori Toure: entered transfer portal.
