Bowl games?
I think there was a post on this subject a while back but with the new normal may be time to take another look. I don’t think we get the full slate of bowl games but some could move back a week or so. I mean, if the CFP can run into mid-Jan there can be some space for content for ESPN and the other networks.

RE: Bowl games?
We know for sure that the Redbox Bowl is canceled. They couldn't find a host stadium during the Covid mess. I would imagine several of the bowls that usually host MAC schools will opt to take the year off as well, if they can't get their season started.

I would imagine any bowl that isn’t a top tier bowl will likely not take place this year.

It might depend on espn and their desire for live football during the normal bowl season. People won't be traveling to bowls near as much but espn probably doesn't care about that aspect near as much as they do about tv viewership.

Any two teams that are ready/willing/able to play each other will be allowed to do so, in whatever location is ready/willing/able to host them. W-L records won’t matter.

Of the non-cartel bowls, I imagine almost every bowl owned by ESPN will be played if there is absolutely any way possible. At the very least.

Agree. That’s the only reason they exist in the first place.

RE: Bowl games?
Quote:A waiver seeking elimination of all bowl eligibility requirements has been submitted to the NCAA by Football Bowl Association executive director Nick Carparelli. A decision could come as soon as next week.

Under normal circumstances, bowl eligibility begins with a team having a .500 record. If there are not enough teams to fill all the bowl slots, teams with one additional loss get consideration in order of their Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Look how many games are canceled week to week right now because of COVID outbreaks.

With the planning that goes into a bowl, I'm just not sure they're going to be willing to invest the time and effort into low level bowls that might not even happen because a handful of players on one of the teams might have gotten sick.

Maybe I'm just overestimating what goes into making bowl games happen.

Bowl games?
The only thing ESPN cares about is that two teams are on the field playing...and they only partially care about that because they’re going to discuss the CFP all game.

They seriously do not give 1, um, penny about how many people are in the stands, the economic impact on the city, etc. They want a game on ESPN (2, U, 3, et. al.) so eyeballs in homes and bars are tuned to Disney-lite.

Hot off the press from yesterday.

Music City Bowl in Nashville says they WILL play the game this year.

If some teams --especially P5's-- decide not to go bowling this season, that might leave a "better than usual" bowl opportunity for some of us.

I am pretty cynical about the whole bowl system. I suspect that what they actually need to do to put on the games isn't all that complicated. More complicated this year certainly than in other years, but just to hire concession sellers and cleaning staff and send out press releases and pick two teams is probably still doable.

But a lot of the extra stuff like flying your bowl executives all over the country to watch teams in person and some of the bowl week events will obviously have to be skipped this year. Including some of the really neat positive stuff. You wouldn't want to send a bunch of college kids around a children's hospital or anything this year, which will be a shame.

Regarding bowls...just as long we get a chance to make it SEVEN IN A ROW! I'll be satisfied.

But, who knows, with the way the landscape keeps changing and will change again, it might be Tech vs. some elite P5 in the Rose Bowl, baby! Would offer a challenge to keep the bowl win streak alive, but a chance to play in the "Granddaddy of 'em all!" would be worth it.

Or....we might be back in the Indy Bowl opposite some Belt team, who knows?

Seriously though, this is a year where I honestly don’t begrudge that to anybody. Hell even if they’re 0-10. As long as they want to play and somebody is willing to have them, why not? No one cares about the lower-tier bowl games anyway. Just cheap filler content for sports-media.

I wish we could get the Cotton Bowl eventually just to knock out all the DFW bowls haha
