In a different thread there was a tangential discussion regarding NCAA violations as the relate to conferences. It got me curious and as I was looking for a reason to procrastinate from my class reading, I decided to use the NCAA database to analyze major violations by conference. Given that what is a “major” violation encompasses a wide range of wrongdoings, and some wrongdoings are so extreme that the NCAA can not even punish them (looking at you UNC) this is likely a completely meaningless list. But whatever, like I said it is better than reading. I used any team that received a “major” punishment from 1/1/2000 to 9/17/2020 (
https://web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/search?types=major&q=). The list is in order of the percentage of teams in each conference that received a violation. Also, I’m a bit tipsy so it is possible I made a mistake, but I invite anyone to correct the data.
