If Air Force is playing Army and Navy why wouldn't they participate?

The Air Force-Army game would be in the same 8-week window when the Mountain West would want to play 8 conference games. Do they start earlier to let Air Force do that? Do they only play 6 or 7 conference games? Or do they just do it without Air Force?

If the MWC only plays 8 games then Air Force only schedules 6 conference games while still playing Army and Navy for their 8 game schedule. Air Force for goes the MWC championship game to play for the Commander and Chief Trophy against Army and Navy. 07-coffee3

Air Force could simply play a 5-game MWC Mountain Division schedule. Only qualify for the CCG if they win the division outright, likely meaning 5-0 MWC record and holding the tie-breaker win against all its divisional opponents.

I'm still not certain that Hawaii or the MWC California schools will play. It looks like the PAC 12's ability to play in California will be significantly based on strict testing protocols, which could be too expensive for MWC schools.

In that case, the remaining 8-team MWC could do a 7-game round-robin schedule, with no CCG. AFA plays 9 games with Army and Navy OOC. The 7 other MWC schools could try to schedule an 8th OOC game, such as against BYU or others still looking for late-season games to earn a little more revenue.

Air Force vs Navy is on October 3rd and wouldn't interfere with an MWC schedule that starts in mid-October.

Air Force vs Army is November 7th.

This video of dominos falling in reverse seems appropriate.

It's really not hard to figure this out. Once the Big 10 reversed and the PAC started looking for a way to play, it was natural that the MWC and MAC would follow. The reason being they don't have to stand alone against government, or risk the consequences of making the decision to play. So all factors pressuring them have been removed, whether real or perceived.

So now the decision comes down to two options:

Refuse to play and destroy the finances of your Athletic Department for years to come.

Accept the same risk that your peers are accepting and hope for the best.

When faced with those two options there really isn't much choice is there?

If Pac and these two come back, it will be UConn, UMass, ODU and NMSU alone.

If the MWC follows the Big Ten's lead and starts on October 24th then UH should be able to participate. The Hawaii state government is planning to change the 14-day quarantine rule effective October 15th to allow arriving travelers to skip quarantine if they provide evidence of having tested negative for COVID-19 three days or less prior to their travel date. So teams can play in Hawaii without having to quarantine and UH can return from road trips without having to quarantine.

We will have a huge home field advantage, this year. The air is already chewy here, even when there are no fires. It probably won't rain until after Halloween.

So...the reason the MAC gave up football was because the P5 games that they live on disappeared. It seems it was a financial decision.

So how are they going to come back when there will be no P5 games for them? What changed in their finances? Nothing that I can see.

ODU can jump into a CUSA schedule and or play UMass and NMSU. UMass and NMSU can play each other and go back for games with Army and BYU plus fill any holes for cancelled Sunbelt, CUSA, and AAC games, plus pick up a couple of FCS programs that decided to play and still need games. Decisions out of UConn are a joke so they will sit home. Remember they are broke that's why they left the AAC to concentrate on BB again. 07-coffee3
