MAC Football Restart
According to today's Blade, the MAC is considering an 8 game schedule beginning Feb. 8. This proposal has not been recommended to the League or received approval from the presidents.

I am so ready for some Toledo Football. February 8th? Brrrrr!

I wonder if there has been any discussion of an abbreviated Fall season, like the big ten?

MAC Football Restart
If you are going to do it, starting at that time makes it possible to keep football interest after Super Bowl

Will be an epic failure financially as there is really nothing to play for with bowl games past already

RE: MAC Football Restart
Play 6 games throughout Oct/Nov. (5 in division with 1 cross division) then a MAC Championship Game in December. If there are bowl games, a 4-2 MAC school could still play just based on tie-ins and the need to fill slots. Continue to BUILD the MAC brand by being available (even if it means games on Tuesday's with no fans in the stands).

I understand the health costs and the potential risks involved but if this is really about the athletes there needs to be a scenario to allow them to play. If a player does not feel safe, they can red-shirt. I think about Toledo players that get noticed for the NFL because of their senior season tape. Bryce Harris could get drafted this spring - but he won't sniff an NFL roster if the only film they have on him is two years old.

RE: MAC Football Restart
It's not about the players Nick...this is a financial decision. The Big Ten came back because their ADs were losing tens of millions of dollars...something that MAC schools have been doing for years. Sadly, the MAC will likely come back when they can confirm the fiscal health of the Universities, not the physical health of their players.

Clearly the big ten had more financial pressure on it due to all the reasons we are familiar with. I thought I saw a comment about the MAC schools saving money by not playing. MAC schools that can put butts in seats can actually help defray expenses by playing, which would help. The University Presidents or ADs (not just the commish) should come together with a prudent plan that helps student athletes, coaches, band, and fans avoid risk. Let the players vote, and give them a choice to defer without losing the scholarship. They are adults. This may limit university liability. I personally think this is an important factor holding the season up, fully understanding there are more obvious risks involved. Other’s seem to be carrying on by using appropriate protective measures. What are your thoughts? Maybe I am way off on this.

The NCAA has granted blanket waiver for eligibility this season, which means that every player gets a free season. Nobody playing this year (fall or spring) will have it count against their eligibility. The opt-out option is available for players (they retain that year of eligibility either way), but their scholarships are guaranteed for this academic year only. It will be up to coaches the renew those opt-out kids for the 2021-2022 season. We’ll see how many opt out and still get renewed.

RE: MAC Football Restart
ESPN will likely dictate if/when the MAC plays football.

I think it would be wise to lock-in an agreement to rent Ford Field and Lucas Oil Stadium for February should the Big 10 plan go sideways.
