Starting in November won't be pretty. The Rockets always play flat in their first cold game, and that's after several weeks of warm ups. I remember a MAC Championship loss in Huntington, WV that didn’t look too comfortable. Championship stays in Detroit, please.

Having been down in Huntington for the 97 MACC (Lots of snow) and a few years later when it was cold but clear, I believe the game belongs indoors at Ford Field...

I was in Huntington for the MACC game; Randy Moss had a game despite Clarence Love’s coverage. Moss tipped a pass to himself in the end zone for a score. I was seated amidst the home fans. I commented on how impressive Chad Pennington was playing. I got a “yeah but we had better QBs in the past”!

But what have you done for me lately. Marshall hasn’t done much for sometime now. I remember that QB Byron Leftwitch after a TD pass walking off the field mimicking a gun sling. That was taunting. No question about it. Should have been penalized but they did nothing. Marshall got special treatment as some as they were let into the MAC. WHY!!!

I think Ford Field is cool in normal times. It looks good on TV, too. There is only one way I would ever support having it at school stadiums again and that's if it were held at a neutral site. The way they did it before was so wrong in giving one of the teams a huge home field advantage. Yeah, it was cool when we had at UT; not so cool when we played Marshall at Marshall.

But, by being the best team in the conference to that point Marshall had earned the right to that advantage, just as we did previously. The AAC, a much bigger and more marketable conference, does the game at the highest ranked home team's stadium and it has worked out well...no idea why a smaller conference with significant money issues wouldn't make that call as well.

They didn't earn it, they were awarded the first 3 years of the MACC game in Huntington as a condition to their coming back into the MAC (then outbid everyone to have it again in 2000). The fact they won the East wasn't what decided where it would be played - the contract was the determining factor. They had guaranteed the MAC a sell-out of all tickets for the championship games if they were held in Huntington for the 1st 3 years of their return. They had cheated enough with paying players to have stockpiled enough talent to win their weak division from '97 to 2000 which validated their gamble on hosting the MACC without knowing if they would even be in it. Pretty safe gamble for them knowing the players they had accumulated - including Moss who they probably expected would only be there for 2 years, maybe 3.

I spoke to the MAC commissioner about those 3 MACC games at Marshall. He mentioned they were the only school to offer it. I am sure Marshall learned an important lesson playing home games in the 1AA playoffs prior. Again, shame on every other MAC school representative. That’s just poor school leadership. Don’t let it happen again.

I wouldn't say shame on the other schools. Maybe no one else liked the idea. Marshall has great home support and, as you say, saw the benefit. As the ol' saying goes, "cha ching!!"
