MAC football in February?
An eight-game schedule in winter/spring?

Here are bullet points from a story by a Toledo Blade sports writer who covers the MAC as well as anyone.

• The Mid-American Conference is considering a February resumption for its football season, according to league sources.
• Under the proposal — which has not yet been recommended to the league nor received approval from the 12 presidents of full-member MAC schools — football teams would play an eight-game schedule beginning Feb. 20.
• Further, the league could continue to play some of its games on weeknights to avoid conflicting with the NCAA men's basketball tournament, which is scheduled to begin its first round March 18.

(Sure would be cold on those fields.)

MAC is so pathetic. May as well waive the white flag. Enough with the Jolly Roger crap. We look so stupid.

RE: MAC football in February?
By February, it will be full blown flu season and whatever momentum Covid has left will probably be on an upswing. The B1G is smart (as are the other conferences who started play already) to try and get their season in during Oct-Dec when things are likely to remain level and not completely out of control.

It's possible a vaccine could be around by Feb, but something like 55% of people polled say they won't take it!

RE: MAC football in February?
How will the financial situation be improved in the spring?

I'm being sold the real killer to the MAC season was the financial hit. So are we gonna get all our money back we lost in the spring?

A February start? That's just 4 months away. WTF will change in 4 months?

We're not playing in Spring. It's chasing rainbows and a bit silly anyhow.

Yeah, I’ve pretty much relegated myself to the fact that we will not have MAC football till September/2021... 03-banghead

A few high profile players on UB are starting to get antsy and have taken to Instagram and Twitter expressing their desire to play. I made a comment under one how the MAC needs to be pressured and come up with a legit plan NOW. It was liked and retweeted by a few players and a coach. So behind the scenes you know guys on in all the MAC programs see what's going on around the country and want to get back to playing. We'll see if some of these guys put their names out there for transfer. If the MAC does nothing, there will be no confidence in this league going forward.

I don't see why playing in February is so scandalous w/ no OOC games

RE: MAC football in February?
While I highly doubt Spring will happen, these ideas would be a good start if it became more than a pipe dream:

1) Work closely with the Mountain West Conference. If they play too, the MAC winner and MWC winner can square off at the end.

2) Utilize Detroit and Indianapolis domed stadiums, at least for the February games.

DETROIT 6 teams: Noon, 4 pm, 8 pm kickoffs
INDIANAPOLIS 6 teams: Noon, 4 pm, 8 pm kickoffs

I doubt any network will put us on Saturdays or Sundays during March Madness, so it'd be #MACtion on a Tuesday Night in March. 03-no

I agree.

There will be Pac-12, MWC, MAC, etc.

As noted, go to weeknights during March Madness. Otherwise, Saturdays work well.

Feb. 20 and 27 might be tough, but come March things get better.

I wish there was a domed 25K stadium somewhere in the Midwest.

Agree. If there are any coaches or players 74 or older with stage 4 cancer and no immune system they should probably sit this one out.

Quote:Sources: Here's some MAC football ideas being *discussed* for the spring. Nothing formalized.
*Jan 3 to 17 -- 12-hour weeks
*Jan 17 to 31 -- Camp
*February 13 start. (Potentially a weekend at Ford Field/indoors where all teams play. No solid date, as only discussion).
Ensuing weeks -- Attempt to find off-campus/indoors/warmer sites
Week of March 14 and 21 -- Play Tuesday and Wednesday to avoid NCAA Tournament. Weekday play likely continues from there.
April 16/17 MAC title game.
