This win was less than ideal, but a W nonetheless.

We get the Fighting Camels next! A Friday night game which may be a first for us at Brooks Stadium. I hope you beat their humps in because they are Big South leftovers that need to be thrown in the trash...

Well, to be fair, they were one season out of the Pioneer Football league then. They're probably at the FCS scholly max now.

Still, ugly.

Got to give GS a pass on this one, I don’t care who you are playing, you have that many players out you are going to struggle, just be happy with the win and move on.

Thank you for your kind words...this one was embarrassingly ugly. Hopefully it’s not indicative of how we’ll look this season. Great win over UNCC today.

Idk what to really think. Why didn't we postpone with 30+ players out? Why does our offense struggle so much with a 4-th yr QB and OC?

Where there hell did that OL come from Campbell? Why didn't we tell their QB he can do whatever he wants to if he signs with us?

Ugly W but a W nonetheless. Hopefully staff has learned their lesson and if we have a quarter of the team out we postpone the game going forward.

According to some post game interviews with the players, they didn’t find out that a lot of the starters would be out until the team took the field for pre game warmups. By then, it was too late to cancel the game. COVID positive players and their roommates have to quarantine for 2 weeks. Since all of our players live together, if one person tests positive, that affects several players.

Well if this is true next weekend's game is going to be a long game.

Depends on when they were tested. Some of them might be done with their quarantine by the FAU game

Two weeks sounds like an absurdly long time for a quarantine. IIRC that's the max incubation period and applies for someone who can't get tested. But the guys who were exposed to positive testers should be good to go if they test negative this week.

CDC only recommends 10 days. 14 is the old guideline.
They should update that and basically just see who tests positive. But it also sounds like a lot were for other issues.

Well FAU has a top five G5 roster...we better figure something out quick and pray those kids that were out are going to make HUGE impact coming back. This might be ugly...the FAU game is basically going to let us know where we are at. IF the Campbell game was real we might not win another game, everyone left is light years better than Campbell unless covid ravages a roster or two. I just dont have a good feeling. We could not hit deep passes and passing overall has not gotten better with the QB. There has to be a better arm in our QB ranks. This mediocre recruiting combined with lack luster coaching is coming home to roost period.

I would wait until after Saturday to see if you are in a train wreck or not.

Honestly, I watched most of the game and I thought Campbell's QB and line were FBS grade. I think they have a strong FCS team - and I feel bad they can't get a full season in. The Campbell players, and head coach, were impressive as hell.

If you're not careful you can start to sound like a P5 team that barely beat a G5. They start saying 'woe is us, and our program sucks'. In actuality they may have just played a damn good G5. We will also see how well App State does against them after we play Marshall.

Now, for God's sake get a hold of yourself and play GS football this weekend!!!

They do have some legit players. As I mentioned before they were in the Pioneer League back in 2017 and it takes time to build up scholarship numbers.

That said, it was still a 6-5 Big South team and I feel like Coastal will probably beat them by 20-30 on Friday. They'll do a better job of forcing their DBs to defend the perimeter then hit them deep. Their front 7 was strong, but not really fast.

Legit players? Their QB is legit. He's a play maker and as I understand it we offered but he wasn't interested for obvious reasons. This defines our challenge going forward. We just can't seem to find our Greg Hills like we use to. Just putting it out there for our conference mates. It's a problem and we don't like it. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing. When it works it's a beautiful thing.

Au contraire Yeller!

Why would I want GS to win? Hmm...well I'll give you a hint. Why would I pull for UNCC to beat UNC? Normally I would not care, but this year I do.

Why? I need every App State win to be against a quality opponent. I need GS to win as much as they can....I need Louisiana to win as much as they can. So IF IF IF App State beats you guys and Louisiana it is beating quality teams. And IF IF IF we lose it is to a quality opponent.

We can't just have you guys going around and losing to FCS and CUSA teams now can we??? No. Of course not.

On the other hand, if it were the end of the season...and you guys were playing the Soviet Union for the National Championship I would pull for the Russians. That better?

Now you canaries march out there this weekend and beat FAU - thanks!

If Greg Hill, Kevin Ellison, Chaz Williams, or even Jayson Foster were in high school today, I doubt any of them would get DI offers at QB. Athleticism is more important than it used to be at QB but not that much more important.

Our issue is we have not (or maybe for some reason cannot) sign QBs in the quantity we used to. You can judge a QBs speed and arm strength on high school film but there's no way to know who is going to develop the best skills in the option game. The more seeds you plant the more likely you are to have the prize pumpkin.
