RE: Kelly Extended
He is 94-37 at ND.
I am happy about the extension.
This will make him the longest tenured head football coach in Notre Dame history.

I don't like that this wanker will be the ND all-time winning coach.
I had hoped he would retire at the end of 2022.

He may not finish the contract, who knows?
The extension was needed for recruiting purposes, at least.

I have a feeling this all-in relationship with the ACC may last two years. I believe Covid will still be a thing at the end of Spring.

prediction:
The game scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving this year will become an annual affair during Championship Weekend as a divisional match-up.

So in your opinion you believe we (UNC and ND) will have annual affairs? I assume that the ACC would want to capitalize upon the Clemson and ND game. I would be surprised IF ND joined we wouldn't see Clemson as a yearly opponent. ESPN would demand it I am sure.

No.
Placing Notre Dame in the Coastal gives them exposure in North Carolina and Virginia every year. It puts them in Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Miami every other year, and with a crossover game with Syracuse/Boston College, they would play in the NE every other year.
The Irish would have an opportunity to advance to the divisional championship and play in the Conference Championship Game.
Home and home with a B1G, SEC or Big 12 teams gives them National exposure even with a 10 game conference schedule.
The west coast is no longer important in collegiate athletics and Notre Dame has recognized it is no longer advantageous to play there.

RE: Kelly Extended
The Coastal would definitely be the division ND would play in. I don’t think it will happen soon, but if it did, I’d move VaTech to the Atlantic and add Navy as a football-only to the Coastal:
Pitt—Louisville
Navy—Syracuse
ND—BC
UVA—VaTech
UNC—NC State
Duke—Wake
GaTech—Clemson
Miami—FSU
ND, Duke, Pitt, and Virginia are all in Navy’s top 10 most played opponents. BC, SU, and GT are top 15.
I think ND-Louisville would be a great crossover (meaning Pitt-SU and Navy-BC), but I’m thinking ND would prefer BC. Either that or some rotation between BC, SU, and Louisville at neutral sites.
* ND rotates @Miami/@USC Rivalry Week, just like the 80’s. Pitt-Navy is played Thanksgiving weekend.

VT to the Atlantic = great idea!
adding Navy = not so fast...

I'm fine with that too. Q: from a ND perspective, how often do you need to play UVA, Duke and UNC?

Duke? not comment. UNC and UVA are fine on a rotational basis. UNC are good games and UVA have been interesting.
