I comment because just like AnyGivenSatuday this board has about a 99% delusion rate. For something the vast majority doesn't care about or pay attention to. If IAA/DII/DII/NAIA ceased to exist in football the avg fan would not notice that much. To think that any or even a majority of schools not in the P5 are scared to play JMU is just out right craziness.

I mean Marshall had both Boise and Pitt on the schedule this year at home, they backed out and who did Marshall replace one with, yep Appy. What happen you ask, a #23 Ranked Appy State went home with a 17-7 loss. And on Monday morning Marshall was ranked $25. So again:

NO ONE IS SCARED OF JMU... Or schoud I say a wanna be NDSU.

Is it possible that an incompetent administration that fails to negotiate scheduling deals would then try to place blame on other schools unwillingness to play?

Marshall should be happy they were able to find a starting QB for their team from one of our backup QBs.

Man. I was trying to remember the last time Marshall finished above us in the USA Computer ratings.

The answer is 5 years ago - prior to Houston.

Marshall 04-chairshot JMU

I can tell you a college people have not been afraid of for awhile. Remember the Marshall Randy Moss teams? How quickly 22 years flies.

JMU Haley better than Marshall Moss.

And Moss only went to Marshall because he was kicked out of Florida State of all places. Man if Florida State won't even allow you to play football for them, where do you go?

Marshall will play Boise, Pitt and App because a loss to those schools doesn’t get your head coach fired. A win against those schools is good for the head coaches job security.

A loss to an FCS school gets coaches fired. See ECU ex-head coach for proof of this statement. My guess is SMU coach was fired too. Beamer survived at Tech because he had a long successful tenure there and won the ACC the year he lost to JMU.

We are not being arrogant fans. FBS coaches schedule FCS schools for wins not to have competitive games. That is why Campbell easily gets FBS games while JMU does not. If Campbell builds its brand by knocking off three FBS schools in one decade, then they too will struggle to get FBS games.

You do realize JMU has had three FBS wins since 2010 and last minute 4th quarter losses to NC State and WVU as well. Unless I am a top 25 FBS program, I am not playing a quality FCS program and risking an upset that will be on every college highlight show for the remainder of the weekend and in every Sunday paper too.

Is it possible that an overly skeptical fan who doesn’t know anything blames the JMU admin for everything? YES

I agree. I don’t think FBS schools are scared of JMU in the sense that they know they will lose or can’t compete but I do think when scheduling games against OOC opponents they would prefer not to play JMU especially in a season where OOC games are limited. What is the upside? They often recruit against JMU why would they risk a loss or a tough game where some players may get injured with nothing to gain?

Hey if we were FBS and ranked like App it’s a different story. Of course Marshall wants to take a crack at App State. Kudos to App for playing them. Just because programs respect JMU doesn’t mean they will schedule us. Ask your AD if he’d prefer to play a lower level FBS school, a mid or upper tier FBS school. a lower level FCS school or JMU. I bet JMU is ranked last from among that group- little to gain and something to lose.

Obviously a big reason why JMU should move up to FBS scheduling will only get tougher from here on out despite all their best efforts. As a newer FBS these schools would probably take a chance and put JMU on the schedule and then after we prove ourselves like App and others have schools will agree to play us because we won’t kill their playoff ranking metrics.

RE: App State vs Charlotte - ESPN2 at 12 noon
Scared is not the right word, but to the average fan FCS is FCS. To the hardcore fans like us, we all know that JMU is a better program than a lot of the low level G5 teams.

FBS teams typically play FCS teams as a glorified scrimmage. Opportunity to work out some kinks while still winning. There's no reason to play a top tier FCS team such as JMU, taking a chance on losing, when you could play Campbell. The end result in terms of respect from the average fan is all the same.

I think JMU is poised to transition to FBS similar to how Marshall and App St did. I think you all would hit the ground running, but that's just me. I like to take jabs at you all from time to time, mainly because you are an easy bunch to get riled up. That's a good thing though. You have a passionate fan base which is also why I think you all would make a nice/smooth transition to FBS.

No offense to JMU, but no logical person would say JMU has a better football program than Marshall.

As you all know, I hope the future unicorn conference comes to fruition and I hope JMU is included. I think you all would make a good transition to FBS and would love to share a conference with you all.

Well, Marshall does like to start JMU’s hand-me-downs at QB. :lmfao:

Let’s just hope we get the chance in the not too distant future to see the two programs play.

RE: App State vs Charlotte - ESPN2 at 12 noon
Georgia State vs Charlotte cancelled apparently due to Georgia State and Covid cases.

When comparing JMU to these others they have the fallback of a conference who forged ahead. Can you imagine if JMU forged ahead with a schedule that included Georgia State Charlotte etc kept diligently testing and practicing only to have these games cancelled the week of. It’s one thing if as a G5 you can fall back on the fact that your conference is playing you’ll have some conference games maybe a conference championship and a bowl at the end of it. If you are JMU what’s your upside- no playoff, no conference title - just for pride and the opportunity to knock someone off.

Don’t get me wrong I would have loved to see it and for that opportunity but I get why they opted out. The reality is that there have been a fair number of games cancelled or postponed due to Covid.

Who knows if the season continues on its current trajectory or gets better/worse.
As of now, of the teams that decided to participate In 2020 82% of scheduled games have been played. Not perfect for sure, but pretty good for operating in a pandemic with college kids who have less concern for health problems associated with COVID.
