Yeah I think he needs at least 1 NYD bowl victory before consideration.

That is unless he just rattles off 5 straight years of 9+ wins. Ohio State fans still love Luke and Freeman.

Regardless, Ryan Day has absolutely dominated recruiting this year and has already proven to be a good coach. There was talk that he was an NFL guy if he had success at OSU, but he seems to be catching the Buckeye bug to me. Only concern I have with Ohio State is did the Big 10 just F the whole conference over this year with the handling of Covid. We'll see.

I'm happy Luke is on this list, received a well deserved raise, and got his assistants a raise. He's already proven to me he is loyal and seems to have caught the Cincy bug a bit (Seems very happy here). Only a few schools out there I'm scared of at the moment. Enjoy the ride! This could be our statue guy!

Since you mentioned the raise... I was going to post this on his new contract thread: It’s crazy how there’s about 40 people or whatever that make more than him. There’s a lot of average football programs that are paying coaches more than 4 Mil, And who knows how many of them can really afford it. I guess with the impact of coronavirus we will know come next contract time for those coaches.

I was also impressed with how practical of a contract that was. If the season was canceled or there was less people in the stands etc. his salary would be adjusted (UC’s Money coming in would be significantly affected and it wouldn’t be practical for the athletic department to still be able to pay him). Sounds like a very fair and reasonable contract. And he seems like a fair and reasonable guy.

The thing about all that crazy money the P5 schools make is they have to spend it. Otherwise the ADs would be sitting on huge surpluses, strengthening arguments for pay to play. When I sit back and think of the $51M+ Million a school like Northwestern makes every year from the B10 compared to what UC’s $7M it is staggering. That’s a lot of green you have to blow through.

Yes and no. I mean look at their last hire Ryan Day. He has NFL position coach experience, but college wise he only had OC experience at Temple and BC. His only HC experience were the 3 interim games he filled in for Urban before being named the full-time coach.

Point being it's not like he showed extensive success anywhere as the head man. And he didn't build a program or anything. He's been a great hire, but I'm not sure it's fair to say he had proven to be the best of the best in college coaching when he was hired.

Bringing it back to CLF, what exactly is it that OSU wants in their next coach that CLF couldn't provide? I hope it never comes to that for our sake, but I don't buy this notion that OSU wouldn't be looking to hire CLF if they had an opening. He'd have to be at or near the top of their list as things stand right now.

It's not like OSU had a big search and then settled on Ryan Day. I heard one of the espn honks saying that OSU didn't do a search at all because they knew they had the right guy ready to take over. If Day bolts for the NFL then I think all bets are off, and OSU does a real national search in which CLF will absolutely be considered. I, however, don't think it will be a quick done deal as ti was with Day.

What if they think they've got the right guy ready to take over whenever Day leaves? Point is "you never know". Look at UC if CLF did leave right now for whatever reason. We might have a cursory national search, but I'm guessing it wouldn't take long at all for us to be introducing our new HC Freeman. Now of course things could change, but that's my point above. You can't just say oh they are X therefore they are going to do Y when we are talking well into the future. You might have a pretty good idea of what you think X will do now, but things can and often do change rather quickly.
