Best news I've heard in awhile regarding this upcoming season, I've nothing against Powell, he's a kid, and has parents, I respect that, but it's his 3rd university, too me that's a red flag, or he simply wasn't the starter at 2 universities! Competition needed! Let's shock everyone and win the MAC! 36 years and waiting for everyone on this board, and this's CC NINTH season as well!

He lead the country in Completion % at the JUCO level. He seems to have a great pocket presence, takes care of the football, and is dynamic passer on the move. Would say that he puts up a fight for the starting job.

You just described Mike Glass. Hope he's just as good.

Yes very mobile out of the pocket and can run.
We were talking about QB depth and lack thereof. If my math is right should have four years at EMU.
Brown at DT, Jackson at OL, Isaac Smith at WR, Blount at QB and Gulley at DB have all been nice late pickups. If Carson Lee can get his life straighten around he could be All MAC soon.

I watched part of the Hudl and didn't see any evidence of a really strong arm.

I saw the same. Mostly high completion percentage type passes. CC seems to favor the dink and dunk offense so maybe thelis kid is a good fit.

You aren't getting four star QBs at this stage of the 2022 recruiting process. He has four years to progress.

I will second that. Mike was All-MAC, just too fragile.

You realize that the JUCO was a D-III player? Not D-I or II JUCO.

And you realize that even D3 JUCO football is a higher level of competition than the average high school football program.

Well his JUCO team was national champs. Their spring game drew 70 coaches. And I see players on the team getting offers from CMU Eastern Kentucky Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois.

Drop the 'C' 'Eastern' and 'Western' in your post and I'm
Not going to win the MAC unless we recruit above our opponents, not MAC and not FCS.

Dear steve,
Kind of my thinking as well. When I see any recruit listed as three star and then see that they have only one or maybe two offers from FBS schools, and five or six from FCS schools, are they really that good? Or, if a player transfers in from an FCS school to Eastern, do they really have the talent that we should be looking for in a player?

RE: Unofficial 2022 Football Recruiting Thread
To you first question, a half yes. The percentages play out, that if you are recruiting kids that are offered by your peers, than you're probably on the right path. BUT the very nature of recruiting at this level (mid-major) means that your harvesting from a HUGE pool of kids that are not going to be that different from each other. I've been to enough one day combines to know that in a crowd of 150-200 kids, there will be about 10 that stand out immediately - the ultimate eye ball test. The rest blend in with each other. So it's way easier to overlook good kids, to offer those that won't pan out on your roster. See JJ Watts the 2-star.
Second question, is a Big no. If a kid has played a year at an FCS school, then you have very good tape on them. You might even have film from a payday game vs an FBS school. And there are plenty of FCS kids that would be all-conference at the Mid level. It's the same argument as above. To many kids, of similar resume coming out of high school. FBS misses might be FCS studs. Bringing in FCS kids can be brilliant.
Side note - OL are the unicorn of recruiting. And the most important position to have depth (outside QB, maybe). You've got to have lots of them.
