RE: AP Preseson Poll
I said this in another thread, but I'm glad they included all teams in the preseason poll because it makes our inclusion more meaningful.

100% has to be weird as a voter though, giving out a first place vote to Ohio State knowing they're not playing a season. So after the first week of games I assume voters just scrap their preseason poll and remove the P12 and B10 teams? Or is 0-0 Ohio State still going to be better than a 1-0 Cincy?

Bolded, that's a reasonable conclusion but we're in a surreal year. How can one rank teams that aren't even participating? My guess is the polling took place days or weeks ago before the B10 dumped their fall season?

Will the poll now be weekly? Are some teams starting play next weekend?

So that puts us at 14th without the Big10 and Pac12?

That's my take too. Now toss in a couple more AAC teams and they'll set the stage for an exciting American season.

RE: AP Preseason Poll
This poll has meaning for at least one person:
CoachFick. He is really insulted.

Voters had to include the PAC and B10.
I guess they weren't told to include the MWC.

This is the first time! Bearcats have been ranked in the AP preseason poll.
Memphis, SMU and Navy should be in the next AP poll. The earliest Bearcats have been ranked is after the Sept 7, 2009 blow-out against Rutgers on a Monday night game at Rutgers. I remember the game because I live in Miami and Greg Schiano's weekly football was shown on local TV. I watched his show to see any Bearcat plays when near the end of the show a Rutgers fan in a stadium (Rutgers) held up up a sign. A 30 minute Schiano show and they didn't show a single play from the game. Bearcats won 47-15. For a gimmick, Rutger's football put up two billboards along I-95 in south Florida advertising for football recruits.

At the Memphis home game Sept 5, fans have to sit 12 feet apart
according to Shelby County rules. They expect 4,000 attendance.

God I hope we get some semblance of a season.

If the Big10 plans on keeping their commissioner, it'll take a big walk back on his part for anyone to play. The power struggle should have happened behind closed doors. By publically announcing the postponment of the season, the commish (and those who wanted to do it) played their power card. I'm interested in what happens...I bet they don't play in the fall. What fallout will there be?

If OSU cares about their long-term relationship with the Big Ten and certain member schools who voted for postponement, they won't play. But the truth is, OSU doesn't need the Big Ten. The ACC and Big 12 (maybe even the SEC) would take them in a heartbeat, and they are perfectly capable of making boat loads of money as an independent as well. In the end, I think they will make a fuss behind closed doors and leak some messages of disapproval, but will ultimately follow along with the Big Ten.

RE: AP Preseason Poll
You know there are voters who will continue to vote for teams (like O$U) that are not playing...just because. They will. Just watch; the Bucknuts will still be getting ranked in "Week 5."

It's as predictable as autumn.

You want to get fired up, read this excerpt from ESPN on AP Top 25

And those non-Power 5 teams?
With two AAC teams in the Top 25 and a third narrowly missing out, I'm honestly fascinated with what might happen if the fall season reaches completion and the AAC champ, be it Cincinnati (No. 13 among teams scheduled to play this fall), UCF (No. 14), Memphis (No. 17) or someone else, reaches the finish line unbeaten. The Power 5 is currently a Power 3, and the winner of the No. 4 league will likely be quite good. Good enough to get a College Football Playoff bid, perhaps? -- Bill Connelly

THIS is what UC is playing for this year. Not a New Years 6 bowl but a legit shot at the playoffs. Now that's something to get fired up about.

Getting there and winning a game (or even playing competitive) would also shake up how it’s viewed moving forward.

RE: AP Preseason Poll
Just bumping this thread as I wonder if there have been any announcements about polling going forward?

ESPN.com still shows the preseason polls, though the first week of college football is already in the books. And will their protocols be to purge Pac 12/B10 teams now that those schools won't play during the normal cycle that sets up the CFP?
