Looking online, I see he is going on his Mission at the end of this month. I saw he was also recruited by Portland, Louisiana Monroe, UIC, Idaho State, and Northern Iowa.

Wow, aren't we full yet? I can't keep track of everyone.

So, this guys has had offers from Ole Miss, Arizona State, UMass, Drake, SMU, VCU and others. I like these Canadians. One thing Weir did is recruit a lot of Canadians. They tend to stick around longer, are mostly good academically, and graduate. As well as being generally nicer guys than a lot of Americans.

If the count is correct, Caston should fill NMSU's final open scholarship... 13 scholarship players plus 3 senior waivers tally up to 16 total players... plus maybe a walk-on or two to be named later.

BCG picked up a little more size for this season. Bryce Brown just committed to Tarleton State. Brown averaged 13.5 ppg & 8.1 rpg at South Georgia State College.

I wonder where the scholarships are? From everything I’ve seen, we are at 14 scholarships with one over for our one returning senior plus two verbal commits. Can you hide players for a year?

If any of your incoming freshmen are Prop 48 kids, they can't take up a scholarship until they are academically eligible. They will have to pay their own way their academic redshirt year.

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
GCU pretty much located all the players they wanted and went out and signed them early. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing but Coach Drew probably has the Lope team he wants and feels can win a WAC Championship.

On the other hand, NMSU always uses to whole recruiting/signing period to filters out the best players they can sign who fit their system. Jans (and his staff) is not quick to show his hand too early on what players are coming down the pipeline. So, every year Aggie fans have to watch other WAC schools rack up good players while waiting for Jans to slowly roll out his recruiting class.

I guess the SHSU coach Hooten operates more like Jans when it comes to recruiting.

BTW, August 1st (Today) is the last day for HS and JC prospects to sign a NLI with their respective universities. If a NLI is not signed by today, universities will need to wait to see what players show up on their doorstep come fall enrollment; if a school still has scholarships to dole out.

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
Correct

Hooten tends to have a somewhat drawn out recruiting calendar but can’t hate him for that. Some of his better additions tend to come late in the signing windows. I am intrigued that we just got a commit from an international player and were in the mix for others. That’s not been a tactic before. Signing someone out of Kansas as is the case for the other young man is not a surprise for the summer period

Since Aug 1 is the finale - when we do start gearing up for the next thread? You do a great job monitoring this and it’s certainly been fun to follow particularly with the transfer portal in play

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
I usually start paying attention to the 2022-23 recruiting class once all the "official" basketball rosters are out (after media day) and the fall semester is well on its way. The next basketball signing period isn't until early November. Currently only a few WAC schools have put out there complete 2021-22 basketball roster.
