I think this puts us up one over the Aggies.

Very good pick up. Should be an impact player in the WAC right away.

RE: 2021-22 WAC Basketball Commitments...
New Mexico State just landed another one 3-Star 6'8 Forward Michael Peake who averaged 10.7 PPG last year for Austin Peay but signed with Georgia out of high school. He shot 62% from the field and 46% from 3 last season. Big time get for the Aggies of New Mexico State. Can you say LOADED!!!!

This is a solid player. Not sure if he is immediately eligible. The guy can shoot. Also over 73%FT for his career. I'd like to know HOW they managed to get him-- would have been great at WKU-- oh well-- Congrats!

NMSU is back even with Tarleton now that Michael Peake committed to be an Aggie.

So how does all of the commitments work at the D1 level? At D2 you can split scholarships so sign as many as you can and spread the $ around. Do some of the students take minimum hours so they don’t use a year of eligibility? Do they redshirt? In our case, Tarleton isn’t losing a bunch of seniors so we won’t have the scholarships available next year unless we run some kids off. And yes, I used a double negative in a sentence.

To be honest, I'm at a loss as to how NMSU, Tarleton, etc. can take in so many players? The NCAA scholarship max limit is supposed to be 13 players. Once both NMSU and Tarleton State put out their official rosters, maybe some questions will be answered.

The answer is walkons. Some of these kids will be walkons.

The Spaniard is correct here some of them will be walk-ons, some might have been promised a scholarship for next year.

Some may also redshirt/blueshirt (??) as part of their transfer to NMSU. Hard to tell, as I know Coach Jans has mentioned some of the guys are working through some personal stuff at the moment. No idea what that would be, and wouldn't even try to speculate.

GO AGGIES!!!!
