The weather up there will not be easy during soccer season. A lot of games could turn out like that match a few years back between the U.S. Men's National Team and Costa Rica.

Quote:Looks like there's no roads to get to other places like Nome as well. Then there's Barrow with the blue football field feet from the Arctic Ocean. How do they get everyone in one spot for their state tournaments?

They fly.

That game was in March at the Colorado Rapids stadium. We can get snow any month of the year here in CO.

Cover the field with an inflatable bubble. Here's a comment by a poster on the D2 board about the city of Anchorage:
Quote:Soccer is pretty big here, even in high school so they would have local kids but they have none of the infrastructure on campus at this point. We do have two inflatable domes in the community that have full length soccer fields which may make for an ok temporary home. Both domes however are privately owned and always full of leagues as well as they have very little seating available. I would imagine a long term goal would be to fund a Inflatable dome on campus with seating if they wanted to go that direction.

If they added soccer, it would be like their other sports, but more dramatic in the lack of Alaskans on the roster. I doubt the state produces more than a couple D2 quality players a year.

Here is an interesting article about the cuts to their ski team. It is a little long, but really shows the impact and place that skiing has in the state.

How can they expect to raise $3 million playing in that shoebox? There's no way they can make this work long-term if that's the condition to get another one-year lease on life. I doubt there's a Pegula there that's willing to bankroll a vanity project and keep the team afloat.

Hockey still needs to raise $1.5M+ in six months.

And while these sports are stuck in purgatory, UAA should be working on adding men's soccer to remain NCAA compliant if hockey does end up being cut.

UAA announces reconfiguration of athletics programs

So much for DavidSt's dreams of the Seawolves moving to D1.

Cross Country is cheap...I'd add that.

They already have Men's Cross Country. It is their men's Fall Season sport.

Hockey still needs to raise $1.5M+ in six months.

The new Seattle Kraken of the NHL announced that they and individual investors have raised $150K towards the effort.

Interesting. Hope they can do it. They'll have to be Independent tho. I hope someday a Pacific hockey conference can get going so the Alaska schools can have a home.

Then you'd need 2 more.

Denver and Colorado College won't join that but maybe Air Force. It would at least give USAFA a conference opponent in the same time zone rather than having to fly to the east coast about seven times a year. And Alabama-Huntsville might still be available.
