Just like the energy companies moving to green power these are those legacy costs, colleges will have them too. The good news IF college costs can come down more can afford to go.

College costs will only come down if you reduce the number of administrators significantly on every campus. Administrators are like cockroaches in terms of longevity and survival instincts, so I don’t see that happening.

University Presidents are by and large educators, physicians or politicians. While they are generally bright people, they bring little financial skill sets to the job. I find it amazing that Michigan hires outstanding intellectuals as President but from 2000-2016 had three corporate CEO's at the athletic director position.

As the Cow adroitly pointed out, college administrations are bloated. They tend to operate in an environment that respects traditional operational procedures rather than examine improved practices and simply realize that the world outside campus has changed. If I were King, I'm not sure that I would want Jack Welch to be a college prez, but I sure would like the Board Of Regents to be populated with such.
