Well, certainly "closer to hurricane season" has absolutely zero validity considering hurricane season in North America is from July thru October (technically, I think it is June through November).

Is there a transfer tracker for football like there is for basketball. I can’t find one. I’m waiting for Big 10 and Pac12 players to start transferring to the ACC, Big 12, and SEC. As long as the three remaining conferences push forward or delay their season postponements, they can make some huge roster upgrades. Even if they think they will postpone the season it is very savvy to wait until the decision has to be made which, of course, is the day of the first scheduled game. A lot of damage can be done between now and then.

Just think if JMU would have been patient and not cancelled their Fall season yet, they could be rummaging the Big 10 and PAC 12 for a Stud QB. Even if the Fall season got postponed later they could transition into Spring football with a stacked roster

The 247 football transfer portal isn’t bad.

Speaking of stud QB’s transferring...Kasim Hill from Tennessee has entered the portal. Originally from DC.

Went over to a UVA message board (The Sabre) to see how they feel about the upcoming season. They seem excited for the season and confident in their testing & Covid procedures.

I realize they are P5 and all, but found their level of engagement pretty solid. As of 10:30 this morning, they had 89 posts just on their FB board. To put it in perspective, we have 3 total posts so far (including this one)- on any topic.

Assuming that things are "back to normal" in Fall 21, you can look to build in more bye weeks for teams both during the regular season and having the week of Thanksgiving off as well.

This is almost precisely what Bourne suggested could happen this Spring, just extended to Fall season also. It makes sense to me.

I would be ok with this permanently while still in FCS, if we added our scheduled FBS games back in. 24 is way too big a pool anyhow, and 16 at large berths feels about right to me for FCS playoffs. It wasn't that long ago that it was 16, and it worked well IMO.

I have not read that article but it's good to know I have the same level of thinking as an AD. Vote for me for the next JMU Athletic Director. I promise to be more transparent about our monitoring of the situation!

Yes, but when you take a closer look at the 89 posts they are as usual all about which flavor of Zima are Muffy and Tad bringing to go with the imported Icelandic cheese.

spring college football, probably. JMU spring college football, probably not. it could happen, but I don't think FCS will hold a spring championship so, from what Bourne has said, there would be no spring season for JMU.

Curious the logic behind your thoughts?

Expenses, difficulty/logistics, covid? Most of the primary FCS conferences this far have announced an intent to compete in Spring. Bourne in an interview stated he expected some announcements about this in 4-6 weeks.

I would think the biggest determiner for JMU would be what the CAA decides, given our difficulty scheduling games outside the conference. Also can't imagine JMU not playing if the CAA does.

He's saying the NCAA might decide not to host the championship, so we would follow suit and cancel. I imagine this is based on Bourne's comments where he described our fall season likelihood being directly tied to the NCAA championship.

Bourne said if there is no fall FCS championship there would be no fall JMU football. Applying that 'logic' to spring would mean if there is no spring FCS championship, and I do not think there will be one, there would be no spring JMU football. But I did say it could happen because, as you said, some schools have an 'intent' to play in the spring, but they also had an intent to have their teams practicing today, too.

Unless there was a subsequent statement I missed, Bourne's statement was "As long as there is an FCS championship, JMU will be playing". That doesn't necessarily mean "If there is not an FCS championship, JMU will not be playing".

Forgive me if previously mentioned elsewhere, but it seems a little ironic to me that UVA is too lame/scared to schedule us in Football- but quickly snatched up two of our guys in the transfer portal. Guess I'll take the good w/ the bad, as we have definitely benefited from their guys coming over to us.
Just ashame that Gary Clarke is the most recent memory I have w/ us against them.

Their scheduling "philosophy" consists of only scheduling FCS they have "history" with. That's UR, WM and VMI. They feel they're good enough academic peers to associate with.

JMU was actually the last FCS program they played outside of this 3 university rotation.... but that was in 1983. The last FCS other than JMU was Lehigh in 1976.

They don't really bother to branch out much. I'm surprised they even entertained scheduling ODU and Liberty, even with an FBS classification.

"History" = patsy games they know they can win, and have many times. We beat them in '83, and they gave up. Gotta give VT a little props for having the guts to schedule us again after a loss. Didn't think that would happen.

Rumbling out of FSU regarding mishandling of Covid testing. Could be an interesting development for ACC?

I just can't see any AD making their program play football from March-June and then September-December.
