RE: When will the others shut down?
UCLA, USC and Cal cannot even play toss in the Pac-12. In the MWC this applies also to San Jose State, Fresno State and San Diego State. Hawaii has the highest rate of covid-19, New Mexico is in semi-lock down, Colorado State has halted, may shut down (Old Dominion is the other school that may unilaterally stop, but that is C-USA). That is 6 of 12. The P12 it's a litle more nebulous, but I know a fe wother programs outside California are down.

The B1G is on pause right now, nobody practicing. I know Rutgers, Ohio State, Northwestern, and three others stopped before the pause.

The whole situation is unraveling very quickly everywhere.

are you openly cheering for a shut down? If so, why are you here? Why are you a fan?

Is there any way you (and the rest and the doomsayers on here) can think positively going forward? The negativity is ridiculous and stale. Think positive, bring positive waves.

I simply cannot imagine living my life in fear like many of you on here. It's depressing actually.

Is there anyway you and the rest of the sunshine pumpers can be realistic about playing football without being in a bubble and surrounded by students who don't give a phuck about the virus?

I simply can't imagine people thinking they can go on living life normally with a virus and no vaccine for it. It's silly actually.

So 90% of college students are silly.

The P12 is waiting on the B1G before shutting down, and I suspect the MWC is waiting on the P12, although they could pull the plug soon anyway. The ACC will have trouble staying up with ND and Louisville in the prime region for Covid surge.

Basically the South, including Texas, will be the last holdouts in both FBS (ACC, SEC, B12, CUSA, SBC, AAC) and FCS (Big South, SoCon, SLC). But Once one of them cancels they all will.

The Pac-12 started the expanded phase of the NCAA summer access model – consisting of eight hours of strength and conditioning, six hours of film and six hours of walk-throughs per week – on Aug. 3, and are permitted to begin fall preseason camp on Aug. 17. The revised regular season starts September 26th. There is plenty of time for the Pac-12 to figure out if there is going to be a regular season. They should not make a decision before the Labor Day weekend. That would be three weeks before the first game.

Right. It's too soon to push the panic button. The Pac-12 also designed its schedule so that either the Sep. 26 games or the Oct. 3 games for each team can be moved to open weeks later in the season. I assume the other P5 conferences did similar things with their schedules.

This is meant to be more playful than anything, but stuff like that sounds like taking an interest in feng shui while listening to Nearer My God to Thee.

Are native to Western NC?

I ask since I married into some of them and they all seem overly fatalistic regarding death. Probably a result of economics, socialization, and a history of being run out of Scotland then Ireland, etc.

I don't know about Scotch-Irish, but Irish Catholics were famous for putting on a party when people died, the Irish Wake.

The reason is that conditions were so ******, that you cried when a baby was born into the world and celebrated when someone died.

They used to put the casket and corpse in the living room and broke out the Poitin and stout, a fiddle and broke into song.

Tulane seems to be practicing as usual. Apparently we have a really good testing program in place. Unfortunately, all of those kids are going to go party once the coeds show up on campus.

They won't.
The schools involved can not afford the losses of "media" revenue on top of other athletic losses and still maintain a shell of what their athletic departments once were.

What?
In North Carolina there have been 135,000 confirmed cases of COVID (NC population is about 10.5 Million)
Of those 135,000 there have been (as of today) 2,184 deaths (attributed to but not verified from COVID). AND YOU CALL THAT STAGGERING??

RE: When will the others shut down?
Shutting down CFB is going to cause a ton of loans to potentially go into default. A TON of FBS programs (of all sizes) have loans on all of those high-end facilities. This could get VERY ugly.

So at that rate, if 60% of North Carolina's population is infected, 170,000 North Carolinians would die. Though, of course, North Carolina is near it's peak rate of new cases per day, and mortality lags infections by two to four weeks, so the average case fatality rate is going to rise above 1.6%.

On a national scale, obviously the large majority of those cases are preventable cases, so the large majority of those deaths were preventable deaths ... but on a state scale, it's not so clear. While North Carolina has a testing positivity rate just below 6%, it borders on South Carolina with a 13%+ testing positivity rate, Georgia with an 11%+ testing positivity rate, Tennessee with an 8%+ rate and Virginia with an 8%+ rate, so even if it continues to the downward trend of infections, it's going to be vulnerable to imported cases kicking off a new round.

And of course a 5.9% testing positivity rate suggests that there might be a bit of undertesting in North Carolina, so the confirmed cases may be an undercount. Depending on how deaths are recorded, if the count is only those where covid19 is listed as a cause of death, then undercounted cases leads to undercounted mortality.

Anytime that we are looking at a 20% bump on normal total mortality from all causes coming from a single cause, and it is obvious from our earlier experience this year that without any policy actions at all it will easily double, then double again, then double again ... that is indeed a staggering potential death rate from following a "lol, yolo" policy response.

Less than 1% of covid related deaths are people under 35, so maybe only BYU needs to shut down.

I would say irresponsible. But that's part of campus life, you go to college to become a responsible, mature individual.

Honestly, there is no right or wrong regardless of what side of the argument you fall under. But I will call bull hockey on those who say you can't live in fear, we all fear something. What you choose to fear is your choice and you shouldn't be ridicule for it.
