I haven’t looked, but even being in the discussion would be huge for National exposure. I haven’t looked, but I would also think there will be some major bowls that struggle to get teams considering the B1G and P12 are out of consideration.

We all laughed at UCF but they made a boatload of money in merchandise sales during their undefeated season and their donations from alumni were through the roof.

But I married into an OSU family and have many friends who are OSU fans up here who had a lot of respect for UC even before Fickell was hired. And Fickell is absolutely revered among OSU fans, so there is even more respect now. Seems like a lot of OSU fans are adopting UC as their team this year, and I'm all for that. I've even seen some say they are going to buy some gear. We should be happy about that, even if we're #2 for those fans. It's still eyeballs on TV and money in the bank with merchandise.

Bolded, just another reason we need this season to happen.

Our daughter married into an OSU family, though she and her husband are both UC graduates. The in-laws are very cordial and respectful of UC really. But most other Buckeyes I know who speak positively of UC generally do so with some degree of condescension--often unintended I think. Their worldview just has the B10 and "everyone else" and they don't seem to distinguish the MAC from the American in any way. When UC reaches the ACC or B12, some of that should diminish.

Sadly for UC fans, head to head in football and basketball recently has pretty much been a disaster.

On the whole though, Fickell's work has been outstanding. I'm particularly impressed with how he's grown in his encounters with the media too. He's very confident now with proven success; he is respectful of reporters' questions but also has some fun with the beat writers he knows; he's always positive, smiles and in the process continues to endear himself to our fans week by week.

He and Chad seem to have a good relationship.

He loves my sunny disposition...

Questions remain as UC Bearcats have one more week of camp before returning to campus

2 point of interest:
1. Not surprising but there have been positive COVID tests within the program. No details but also no indication anything was serious.
2. Sounds like we should keep a close eye on Dalrone Donaldson. I've kept a very casual eye on him since HS but I didn't even know he joined the program at UC.

Flattering that the Enquirer thought so much of what I was hearing from camp on Donaldson that they used it in their story... 03-lmfao

What's Camp Higher Ground? Is that in Ohio?

I'll give Doc credit, he would typically show up at CHG at least once every year to talk to the HC in person...

Sure, ruin my fun. But, did he ever attend a game at Nippert? Did he ever show up at a postgame presser?

Also typically once or twice a year. Same with hoops. If there's a big story to be written, he'll show up...

RE: Bearcats 2020 Preseason News and Notes
Fickell on Dalrone Davidson,

Fickell said a pleasant surprise so far in camp has been walk-on wide receiver Dalrone Donaldson. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound junior joined the Bearcats this season from Hutchinson Community College.

"I would say a lot of people had no idea who he was," Fickell said. "Maybe even when he first came to campus he was quarantined for a while, so that was even another 10-12 days that nobody knew who he was."

Passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli recruited Donaldson when the Miami, Florida, native was in high school. Fickell said a true test for Donaldson will be how he looks against sophomore cornerback Ahmad Gardner, who returns as one of the top defensive backs in the country.

I actually sat next to Doc in the press box at a Louisville game at Nippert in 2013 (when the Cards beat us in OT). He was actually a pleasant guy to sit next to and talk with, much to my surprise.

Nothing should take away from the 12-0. That was truly amazing. It was the other stuff that was laughable.

Camp higher ground is a retreat center in West Harrison IN. It has a conference center, dining facilities, and a lodge. It used to be a retreat for church groups. You can take a look at it on google maps, if you're interested. I think they have one regulation sized field, and a smaller field maybe 60 yds. It's probably as close to being in the bubble as you can get.

They went into the NCAA record books as National Champions because they finished first in the Colley Matrix.

Yeah I don't blame them. The NCAA provides the criteria and each school can decide if they want to claim. While it seemed a bit silly at the time, it doesn't so much anymore. Also, the premier college football program Alabama is well known to claim national titles some of which IMO are even worse like not winning their conference in the same year or their bowl game.

It has been around a long time. Just not named Camp Higher Ground. I attend my 6th grade camp out at the place back in 1978.
