Let's hope Cunningham is working the back channels to secure a quality opponent for that open date.

We can argue on Banter about whether a G5 will ever make the CFP but this season's scheduling pretty much takes that off the board since "quality" wins against the P5 are off the table already for G5 teams.

With the craziness of this season's scheduling, it'd be nice to set up a couple of home and home agreements with teams struggling to find scheduling and to bolster our future schedules - particularly 2024 (Pitt, @Miami, @WMU), 2025 (Miami, Nebraska???, @WKU), and 2027 (@Miami, @Boston College). If BYU wants to do a series using this year and one of those years, I'd be all for it.. same for any ACC team who wants to add a game.. ahem Louisville.

BYU now has eight games scheduled, five home and three away
and only one game scheduled in September on Labor Day.
Army has eight games scheduled including only one in September that is on the 12th.
Notre Dame just cancelled playing Navy this year. This leaves Navy with 11 games and an opening on October 10, perfect for the Bearcats.
All these teams are doable.

RE: AAC Football Scheduling
We should negotiate to go to Athens this year and play Ohio and then that free's up a date on a future schedule, since we're under contract to play there sometime down the road.

We sure as hell better not play the game at Kalamazoo.

The MAC has not made an announcement yet. We know from the ACC schedule release that Miami is playing at Pitt. If the MAC does go to only one conference game then we are down to one OOC game- Austin Peay. However than game is in jeopardy as there has been speculation the FCS is going to cancel their season.
Then I suggest we end playing Miami after beating them at Nippert 2021. Even the series and keep the Bell. If not UC fans should boycott going to Oxford games.

A source told the News the MAC is meeting Thursday regarding its scheduling. The Detroit News reported Wednesday that the MAC is considering a 10-game football schedule of nine MAC games and one nonconference game.

Played every year since 1909 except 1943 and 1944. Even played in pandemic of 1918 & 1919. Choosing UPitt over your rival is disrespecting us. End games in Oxford. Games only at Nippert the way it used to be or forget it!

RE: AAC Football Scheduling
BOWLING GREEN — Mid-American Conference presidents did not reach a decision regarding the fall football season during a Thursday meeting, and instead plan to hold another meeting on Saturday, according to sources familiar with the league.

Bowling Green, which was scheduled to begin its training camp on Friday, plans to postpone its first practice until next week. The Falcons, who already are on campus for workouts, will continue conditioning in the meantime.

BGSU said it will hold its first practice Aug. 14 and conduct a traditional training camp. The Falcons’ opening game was also pushed back a week, as a Sept. 5 game at Ohio State will not be played as scheduled.

The Falcons are slated to play host to Robert Morris on Sept. 12 at Doyt Perry Stadium.

Toledo is scheduled to open camp on Friday. The Rockets’ first scheduled game is Sept. 5 at Tulsa.

MAC directors of athletics met virtually twice on Thursday — both before and after the presidents' meeting — but the league has not yet announced its finalized plans for the upcoming season.

The MAC is the only remaining Football Bowl Subdivision conference that has not released its plan.

Three of the Power Five conferences — The Big Ten, the Southeastern Conference, and the Pac-12 — will play a league-only schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic, while schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Big XII are permitted to play one non-conference game.

Cancellations elsewhere have significantly altered MAC schedules, as nine MAC teams lost at least two of their non-conference games.

The ACC announced its full schedule on Thursday morning, which preserved three games against MAC teams: Ohio at Boston College and Miami at Pittsburgh on Sept. 12, and Western Michigan at Notre Dame on Sept. 19.

MAC presidents on Saturday could vote to delay the start of the season — currently scheduled to start Sept. 5 for four MAC teams — keep its existing schedule, or expand the conference schedule as other leagues have done. The MAC typically plays eight conference games per season: Five divisional games with three crossover opponents from the other division.

The conference originally scheduled the league championship game for Dec. 5 at Ford Field. Some training camps are scheduled to begin this week.

Two MAC schools — Ohio and Miami — plan to start their school years remotely. No Miami undergrads will attend in-person classes until at least Sept. 21, while most programs at Ohio will remain remote through Sept. 27.

This could be hard to get done unless the MAC allows for 4 OOC games which doesn't seem likely, but if they do, it's another good strategy to beef up the future OOC scheduling. Currently Boston College is using Ohio as their one OOC game, but if the MAC allows more than one, we're looking for teams to play and SOS doesn't really matter this year, so it's worth a shot to see if Ohio would move up that 2026 game.. they also have Marshall and Texas State with both conferences (C-USA and Sun Belt) allowing teams to play up to 4 OOC so both games are still on schedule and leaves Ohio with 3 OOC games.

Would likely leave us with 1 OOC (WMU) which is also questionable.. is there a team in the country with more games up in the air outside of the BYUs and Armys. Any chance Miami gets a waiver to play a second OOC game for a team 40 mins down the highway?

I would be in discussions with BYU as we speak...

Good thought; it seems a reasonable request and if the rivalry means anything to Miami, along with the best payday of the year in their own stadium, it should happen. If not, UC may not play a single pre-conference game.

Pre-conference is a hot mess this year and we should thank the B10 for pulling the cornerstone out of the foundation for many midwest schools with long scheduled games (including UC v. Nebraska).

If the FCS cancels the season it will create more openings within the P5 and G5. This season, if played, will be one which will require a lot of flexibility as teams deal with COVID uncertainty. Question I have, if a team goes to one of the hot states do they have to quarantine for 14 days afterward? What does that mean for their next game and the week of practice?

I don't think we're gonna get many marquee games added to the schedule considering the Big 12 and ACC are the only A5 conferences doing OOC and they're just doing 1 per team with most of those already assigned. I'd love to use this year to set up a home and home with App State (we both share open weeks in 2025) and they seem to be struggling to find OOC games as well. Army and BYU were also already mentioned. The AD needs to get ahead of this as the shuffling continues

Miami plays at Pitt on Sept 12th, and are scheduled at UC on the 19th. I think it happens.

Right now we're in a 3-way tie for 2nd most-played FBS rivalry game with the South's Oldest Rivalry (UNC-Virginia) and the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry (Georgia-Auburn).

UC-Miami is September 19th.
Georgia-Auburn is October 10th.
UNC-Virginia is October 31st.

So if the season gets canceled in late September/early October, then the Victory Bell passes those other two.

MAC 8+2

Quote:MAC athletic directors and presidents held meetings Thursday to determine a schedule for the 2020 football season. However, instead of voting on a revised format as expected, the conference's presidents now are scheduled to meet Saturday, according to a conference spokesperson.

A source told The News that the MAC’s presidents and athletic directors are considering a 10-game schedule made up of eight conference games and two non-conference games.

MAC Decision Saturday

Since that tweet yesterday, the Missouri Valley announced they are moving to the spring and the Big Sky is going to consider same (but have not announced yet). The Austin Peay game appears to be in jeopardy.

It looks likely that at most we're going to have 2 non conference games in WMU and Miami. If nothing else is in the works with regards to BYU and Army, CMU looks like they have 0 OOC games as well and could be looking for an opponent.

MAC meets tomorrow, there are rumors circulating that Northern Illinois is going to cancel their season regardless of the MAC vote. They had two B10 buy games canceled, that school is struggling big time in general right now on the academic side as well (massive enrollment decline).
