Woodson, 63, is an Indiana native who scored more than 2,000 points in his college career while playing for legendary coach Bob Knight. He then played for over a decade in the NBA and has spent the last 25 years as an NBA coach.

Not sure how to grade this. He's got connections to the school so he knows what they need and the expectations. He's got NBA pedigree to be attractive to recruits.
However, he's on the older side and hasn't been in the college game for a long time. Having Matta there will be huge but he'll need great recruiters surrounding him. Looks risky but Indiana needs to take some calculated risks as they aren't as sexy as they used to be.

Yep, and college basketball would be even better if Indiana got back to what they once were.

Yep. They're going to try that Dublin thing again. The only difference is Northwestern instead of Illinois.

Quote:The Game, dubbed the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, will be played at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday, August 27, 2022, which is Week Zero.
“We are excited to reschedule the trip to Ireland for our football program,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said. “The young men in our program have been looking forward to this trip and we are happy to provide them this memorable experience. I know our great Husker fan base will be excited as well and the opportunity to travel to Ireland to see their team compete on an international stage will truly be special.
“I also want to thank Irish American Events for being a great partner throughout this process the past couple years. We were pleased Northwestern was willing to move a home game to Ireland and look forward to a great season opener in Ireland in 2022.”

Might as well go to Ireland since they won't be going bowling. Sorry Nebraska! Need to expand their recruiting footprint too!

The Big Ten will now have more than half the football conference offering beer and wine sales, with the news coming from Iowa.
Quote:The University of Iowa Athletics Department announced Thursday the creation of a pilot program to expand beer and wine sales at athletic facilities. Beginning this fall, beer and wine will be available for purchase throughout Kinnick Stadium, with the exception of areas immediately adjacent to the respective student section. Athletic events at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Duane Banks Field and Bob Pearl Field will also be included in the pilot program during the 2021-22 school year.
Quote:Iowa joins seven other Big Ten schools who currently sell beer and/or wine in public areas at its home football games. Approximately half of the schools from the Power 5 conferences will sell beer and/or wine at their home football games this fall.

More neutral site games coming in the future?
Quote:As the football profile of Las Vegas continues to rise with the city landing an NFL franchise and the Pac-12 Championship Game, a prominent local leader is trying to lure some marquee regular season college football as well. Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO Steve Hill told The Mercury News that he would like to pit Pac-12 teams against schools from the SEC and Big Ten in future seasons for early-season showcase games at the new Allegiant Stadium.

RE: Open Thread - Big 10 News Plus.
Ohio State has apparently landed J.T. Tuimoloau to go along with Jack Sawyer as likely edge rushers for Larry Johnson. Brandon Huffman at 247 Sports wrote: "Landing Tuimoloau and Sawyer is as impressive a duo any program has landed in the 247Sports era." It has also been reported that Palaie Gaoteote IV, a former USC linebacker and 5-star recruit is in the OSU student directory. Gaoteote evidently had some ankle injuries at USC but would seem to be a welcome addition to the OSU linebacker room. If nothing else I would wager that Tuimoloau and Sawyer will light a fire under returning DE's Zach Harrison and Tyreke Smith. If the secondary can hold up their end of the bargain (which is a major "if" for me) it appears that the OSU defense could be very stifling.

The fans are mad at this because they're still bitter about him cutting wrestling and football at UNO as part of the D1 move-up. Fact is, he's done an amazing job of growing the program and no one was attending football games that weren't UNK, NW Missouri St., or NDSU. It's a good hire and I wish the best for him, but it'll be an uphill battle to win over the idiots stuck in 1986 that pine for the good old days of not attending the local D2 football team's games. Unfortunately, "idiots stuck in 1986" make up a pretty significant part of Nebraska's fanbase.
According to Damon Benning, one of Scott Frost's first practices after transferring to Nebraska, Trev Alberts tackled him into the Gatorade table as a welcome home. Let's hope they're on better terms at this point.

Looks like a solid hire but I've said that before about them and been wrong.

Breaking rules and still losing? I bet this was leaked by the school to avoid a buyout.

RE: Open Thread - Big 10 News Plus.
First change of schedule this season for the Big Ten schools. Rutgers vs Temple moved to Saturday.
Quote:The game had to be rescheduled due to flooding in the area caused by Tropical Storm Ida, which also caused catastrophic damage in Louisiana and Mississippi when it was classified as a Category 4 hurricane.
Temple will now travel to take on Rutgers on Saturday, Sept. 4 at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network at 12:00pm ET. The game is the first of a four-game, home-and-home series that was supposed to begin last season in Philadelphia, but the contest was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two schools are currently scheduled to play at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa., on Sept. 17, 2022 before the series returns to SHI Stadium on Sept. 9, 2023. A new date for the canceled 2020 contest has not yet been announced.

So what's the deal at Maryland with Danny Manning? Is he going to become head coach or is there someone that's the next coach that I'm not thinking of?
