As I pointed out, if not for the desire to maintain FBS level football, NMSU could have chosen stay put in either the Missouri Valley, Big West, or Sun Belt at certain stages in its history. Because of NMSU's pursuit of maintaining DI/FBS football, it has put NMSU square into this WAC environment now; as a FBS football independent. So, if some Aggie fans are somewhat hard on these newly added former D2 schools, its because NMSU has competed against stiff competition and they know the real deal when they see it. I think GCU has a realistic opportunity to make things interesting for Aggie fans. But until that day comes, being in the revised WAC is a step down in competition and somewhat disappointing. Aggie fans like winning WAC Championship. But being truly challenged by peers of comparable talent over the course of a season and still still winning a championship means a lot more to Aggie fans. WAC teams just needs to win OOC games and the rest will fix itself; self confidence wise.

You guys almost got Indiana State that season (1979-80), but Bob Heaton hit that miracle half-court shot to tie it and send it into OT.

We might have different definitions on what pretty decent means....

Yikes.

Most NMSU fans will trash the WAC when a team leaves. Even one as bad as UNC baseball

Could you imagine how hard it would be for NMSU if the WAC wasn't around and played rescue WAC 2.0....

The only reason all here have a WAC home is because of NMSU football. NMSU's and Idaho's determination to maintain FBS football allowed the WAC to stay alive on life support. NMSU and Idaho stuck their respective football programs in the Sun Belt; keeping every other sport in the WAC. If NMSU had decided to drop down to the FCS level, (like Idaho) they would be in the Big Sky now. And, the WAC would be gone. And, the Great West Conference would be everyone's D1 lifeline. So who rescued who? NMSU has always been D1... That is not the case for GCU, CBU, UVU, CSUB, Tarleton State, and Dixie State.

Don't forget Seattle.

I gave Seattle U a pass because they were D1 once before. And, they joined the WAC along with basketball schools Denver and UTA a year before the WAC had to raid the Great West Conference and started adding D2 schools to stay afloat.

PPosse butt kisser to the rescue. Whatever. I’m sorry but NMSU fans had to endure the never ending trash about GCU and how they would be dominant in this conference with their money and celebrity Coach and his great recruiting and now he’s fired after getting clobbered every year by NMSU. Now they’re all on on here crying about the big bad just a few of us Aggie fans who are so abusive to all our D2 and junior college wac mate move ups. Now they can whine along with there new buddies, Tarleton State fans who get sad that we are not quivering in our shoes about a team that played in the same Conf as Eastern New Mexico last year. Oh, I forget, Gillespie is their coach. Final 4 here they come. You can also bet if we do ever leave this conference to join conf USA or the MWC I will be celebrating with all the other Aggie fans who think the WAC is a joke

The WAC has no confidence. The wac teams are like the girls who go to a dance together cause they have no dates hoping that a boy ask them to dance with them. That includes NMSU unfortunately

Major self *identity* problem. Nobody here is lacking in confidence, but you'll find that out soon enough. The problem is the WAC suffers from a massive amount of ambiguity. Everything is subject to change, or interpretation, or even worse, speculation. The commish is as quiet as a church mouse, so we have to come here and try to figure out things on our own. Some longtime WAC school(s) have deep WAC roots and have won some things at this level, while others have done the same at another level. But to me, the important thing is we're forming a conference of winners. I've said it before, winning programs expect to, and will figure out how to win, at any level. I think this new WAC is shaping up to be a fun and competitive league, especially in basketball and baseball. And hopefully, some day, in football as well.

I think you may be mistaking NMSU's little-brother complex with UNM for the identity of the entire conference. I don't think you'lll find another school or fan base in the WAC who insists on telling you how great they think they are or why your school is trash. I'm pretty sure it's just an Aggie thing. We good over here in AZ.
No little brother complex with UNM my friend. More like brother that gets screwed from his inheritance complex. However in spite of that NMSU still regularly beats UNM and Utep in spite of the huge budget difference. That goes for your for profit school as well. And as far as a little brother complex that award goes to GCU with NMSU my friend. Your weirdo student fanbase will camp out for a week to get into a NMSU game, travel in buses to watch their team lose to NMSU every year with the hope of someday winning at the Pan Am. Your media guys and gal will talk about NMSU in practically every single interview they do. I’m sure Majerle is in a padded room somewhere with a straight jacket on writing on the wall with a red crayon in his foot “BEAT NMSU”.

Someone has a GCU complex. Every single post refers to GCU. A thread about Northern Colorado moving baseball to the Summit and every one of his posts references GCU. Dude is absolutely obsessed with them. He actually hates GCU more than he likes NMSU.

NMSU fans have not had to "endure" GCU trask talk. I've never heard any trash talk from any GCU fan ever and all the GCU guys on this board are super knowledgeable, engaging and respectful. When you go out on social media and forums and constantly trash talk, you are the instigator and others are going to respond in kind. But always remember, you are the one that started it. You're the problem.
