I have no idea how athletics programs can survive this.
I have to agree. I also wonder what will happen if a new virus appears in 6 months. And another one after that. There may not be any more sports ever.

A quick glance — I count at least six Power Five opponents on the CAA 2020 composite schedule. There’s at least that many for the SoCon.
From the CAA website:
“The Conference’s Board of Directors also affirmed that the Conference’s policies would permit member institutions the ability to explore the option of pursuing playing an independent football schedule in the Fall of 2020.”

I like the fact that the CAA is allowing its individual schools the right to make a decision on whether to play or not to play.
However, they might have to play some schools twice.

RE: Fall Sports
I think this is perplexing to everyone right now. I really do not think we can venture too far from the conference just like other schools are totally linked to their conferences. It will be interesting to see just how many games get played, if any. I believe that FCS schools like us are in a somewhat good situation from the money stand point. There is not a huge revenue source that we are losing and we are not spending that much at all compared to a Group of Five school. I expect most FCS schools like us spend around 4 to 5 Million a year on football? A lot of big schools pay their coach more than that. I am just hoping for the best and go Bucs.

Even with no fans in the stands, how can the game of highly contact football be played safely? Social distancing (6’ apart), wearing face masks, and the washing of hands often are the three most commonly stated and agreed upon precautions. Is there a workable, practical way for players, coaches, and other staff to be tested as often as necessary? I know, there are no realistic answers to these questions as coaches, athletic directors, administrators, and student athletes are staring down a dark hole.

RE: Fall Sports
Money will most definently be a problem for ETSU.
Additional costs to Athletic Department
Testing everyone, everyday that is in the physical space with the athletes. Cleaning and disinfecting all areas everyday that the athletes and related personnel are in contact with.
Additional costs to University for general population
Plexiglas installation all over campus, signage and extra cleaning in all bldgs.
Loss of enrollment, which means loss of revenues from activity fees of which part goes to Athletic Department and loss of donations associated with priority seating will take a major hit.
If games are played, ticket revenues will be reduced by approx 40-50%.
There are other expenses but I believe the ones listed above and the loss of normal monies show that ETSU budget will be in dire straits.
This situation will be the same for all mid to lower Athletic Departments.

Does not look like we are going to get any football this Fall. But I sure hope that is totally wrong!

Pay attention to what the SEC does. If they decide to play a full slate, ETSU pretty much has to play in the fall because we need that payout. If the SEC does league only, its my understanding that they will still have to pay ETSU and won't be able to get out of it.

RE: Fall Sports
The SAC announces no football until Sept 26th. I guess that means no Mars Hill game unless we tack it on at the end?

No Mars Hill game. Their website stated that ONLY fall conference games will be played. Short of cancellation — flexibility and playing it by ear is the only option for everybody in this boat.

SoCon teams potentially will lose the 7 games scheduled with the ACC/SEC. Would not be surprised if we now open with Samford and have Austin Peay as the plus one game or just move Samford to Peays spot and play 8 games

If we miss out on the Georgia game, there's no reason to play until spring imo.

Don Helman reported on his show this morning what you said about the Georgia game. SoCon definitely waiting it out for the SEC/ACC to announce conference only schedules. Then there is a good chance for Bucs to get paid for the Georgia game. Fingers crossed!

4 of the 7 will play by September 12, 5 of the 7 by September 19. The other two are in November. The SOCON will play a waiting game until the SEC/ACC decide to play or not. SOCON schools get paid if bigger schools cancel.

Potential replacements for Mars Hill:
Davidson, Presbyterian, Morehead State, Campbell, Gardner-Webb.
Potential replacements for Georgia
Tennessee Tech, UT-Martin, Murray State, Tennessee State.
There's no reason not to try and schedule OOC games that can be day trips or Friday bus rides and 1pm kickoffs.
Of course for Mars Hill, there's no reason they shouldn't be allowed to come across the mountain and play the game. It's 45 minutes from campus.

With Monmouth of the Big South just now cancelling all its games. Campbell and GW have now lost three games each.
