For those in the state, the tournament sites are a bit spread out.

Select universities are hosting (unfortunately none of the ones in the Triangle are hosts...) and then select public facilities, with the championship being in Cary at the WakeMed Soccer Park, which is supposed to have top notch facilities.

With regards to fan attendance:

Quote: The committees intend to provide some opportunity for family and friends to attend the championships. They will follow the NCAA Medical Advisory Group guidelines, and the maximum allowable capacity will be 25 percent.

Isn't Cary part of the Triangle for the most part?

I kind of like the idea of NCAA tournaments being held in one region and wonder if that might become the wave of the future. It's been that way for tennis forever. You may as well adopt that concept in all the team sports, although perhaps you can keep some the first weekend of events on campuses of the higher ranked teams.

Hopefully the city of Houston can join in on the fun in the future. I know we're hosting the Final Four again in a couple of years.

In terms of whether this is Rice's best team ever in soccer, I'd say a 1st round NCAA tournament win would absolutely cement that legacy since we've never had an NCAA tournament win. Even though women's basketball and volleyball had wonderful seasons, I don't think I'd say either of those teams were the best in program history - I'd rank the 2018-19 basketball team first among hoops history (undefeated conference regular season and tournament title), and then last year's volleyball team slightly ahead of this year's team (although unfortunately the Covid case probably robbed that team a chance to surpass the 2019 team results).

I could support that; that makes a lot of sense. The golden age for Rice women’s athletics is right now?

AD should reward success and up the amount of financial support to the teams that are excelling.

Okay in general on that, but let's be strategic and smart. Let's figure out which, if any sports, can have a multiplier effect on their success and if not, if it is possible to create one, and reward that way.

Now in fairness, it may be impossible to do. I would study UConn women's basketball, which may be the most successful college sports program in the country. Have they been able to leverage that success into other sports or other revenue streams? If so, how? If not, did they miss something? Everything we do should be smart (our student body and alumni are!) and thoughtful, and if there is a way to better ourselves, playing from our strengths, then we ought to do that.

I am sure the majority of trustees that are pro sports come to every trustee meeting with these kind of questions and outlooks on their mind.

I am kinda sleepy. I saw where Amy Adams had a rough time at Syracuse going 1-7. However , only her first year.

Yep, Cary is in the Triangle, but none of the universities (Duke, UNC, State, etc.) are playing host at their campus. The Cary facility is not on campus and State only plays select games there.

The other sites for the tournament are spread throughout the state. Great idea, just wish I had more chances to see games in my backyard.
