RE: Nevermind
real talk: Memphis is 'majority minority' and by that I mean over 65% of the Memphis population is either black, hispanic, or mixed race...the cities largest public university really had no other choice IMHO

And that's a big reason the city has gone to hell in a hand basket.

They are saying the words...

Not supporting the organization.

What is divisive about the words.

Abolition was also at one time divisive.

1) They made and used a Logo out of the gate
2) They used the words initially but they were vague on how they were used
3) The pressure was felt because of a mixed message and a logo
4) First rule of PR, if you have to explain it you have failed
5) A draft of what RS was preparing came out without him knowing which outlined what they were doing - was released by someone in the ADs office without his knowledge - they were still fine tuning the wording
6) President had to then step in a higher level and again explain what they were doing
7) Fee to BLM organization to be paid for promotion of BLM logo? Concerns grow
8) Supporting the players on their position is the major concern

A bit of a stumble with good intentions

If #7 actually takes place, then this takes the discussion to a whole other level. I still will go to games, but I will certainly think twice about my donations.

What movement? We keep hearing its just a sticker

You are correct.

Black Lives Matter is more a saying than an organization. Most people don't know an organization even exists.

The movement is the conversation that is beginning to be had about the affects of systemic racism in the past along with prejudices in the present.

I think of the riots they were a part of when I hear it. But that's just me.

Apart from some fringe elements, we all agree black lives matter. Just like, apart from fringe elements, we all agree hispanic, native american, chinese, and white lives matter.

But when you capitalize that phrase, or use the BLM logo, you are bringing the radical group into the discussion. The group that wants cops to fry...

or just die by any means...

They've polished off the rough edges from the launch a few years ago that was too radically aggressive. But from what I've read, the same people are behind the org now that were then.

Again, I will keep buying tickets. But they would have been much better off to go with something like
"I am a Man" and you could even use the Tigers logo in that.
