$9.8 million dollars over the past fiscal year 2020 (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020). Wonder how much was for the SAPC?

Truly awesome. Even if a good chunk is for the SAPC (that is a good thing paying down the debt), the rest is still very significant by any historical standards.

That is fabulous news to say the least. The standard deduction rise in the recent tax act certainly rendered the economic benefits of donating to EMU nominal. I would be interested to know if this fundraising increase is due to expanding the donor base or rather to the Game Above organization. Nevertheless, it is great news indeed!

I do NOT know, but to go from a few million to almost 10 sounds like either Game Above or someone hit the lottery or both. 03-lmfao

I wouldn't be surprised if Game Above didn't donate a ton of money for the SAPC.

I shouldn't have been so flip in my post about hitting the lottery.

It does sound like most money for the SAPC, and that probably is mostly Game Above and that Mike Morris made a big gift or pledge payment.

Money is money Steve, plain and simple, no need to apologize for being flippant. Game Above seems incredibly engaged in EMU and could be the spark that initiates a cascade of donations as well as already dumping a lot of money themselves. EMU is incredibly disadvantaged in this area, the local businesses that support CMU and WMU are not available to Eastern as their money flows to U-M instead. Imagine CMU being located in Okemos.

This is O/T, but the fmr. wife of Jeff Bezos donated $40M to Howard (also big sums to other HBCU like Xavier U in New Orleans - that gift was $20M).

Nice to see those who have it in abundance share it with those who need it.

Colleges and universities, esp. those without the huge donor bases, need $ to help get through this medical and financial crisis.

The bottom line for ALL colleges: It is nice to have others who believe in you. Colleges should do the best they can and hope that they get noticed by donors, corporate entities, etc. etc.

And Howard just got another 1M. This time from HBO.

The BLM movement and civil rights attention is really helping some HBCU schools.

1M may seem smallish, compared to 40M, but unless my math failed me 1,000 donors would need to each give $1,000 to equal 1M bucks.
