I agree. The problem is that it is an election year and Trump is scared of the blowback from doing that so close to November. He is caught in a win/lose situation. Personally...Id do exactly what he is doing now. Defend the Federal properties that belong to ALL citizens and let the rest of Portland and these other Socialist schitholes burn to the ground around them.

Federal law enforcement generally can operate anywhere in the US (and sometimes internationally) to investigate crime or make arrests. They do not need permission from cities or to be in cities to only protect federal property. They just have to be dealing with federal crimes. Could go after these rioters for all sorts of statutory violations, e.g. explosives laws for Molotov cocktails.

It takes somebody with even less capability of using their mind than Joe Biden to even raise this question.

(07-22-2020 08:08 AM)Nameless Wrote:  However, there may be a silver lining to this. Not sure if it was this thread or another one I was reading on here last night that had the Tim Pool video talking about long time Democrats voting for Trump. Someone in that thread mentioned how those people no longer have a party; they love America but in the past have disagreed on how to run the country. It's impossible for them to support the violence being perpetrated right now, but they see the media and the Democrats supporting it. Perhaps this blatant insanity will blow up in all of their faces and truly will push a lot of people to vote for Trump come November.

The backlash coming in November is growing.

The millions of first time gun owners, many of whom were lifelong dem voters who were either scared of/against firearms will be voting. Do we really think they will vote for the party that is endorsing this violence? They bought a gun because they want protection in case the mobs come for them.

The hubris of the left to believe that they could create an army (just as well funded and equipped as the real army - Obama), unleash it on the country and then actually be able to control it, is all we need to see to realize that this is what life under dem control will look like. Not something likely to draw the support of normal folks. Sure, there will be some people who don't pay attention to current events and always vote Democrat who will continue to do so, because orange man bad.

For the sake of the country, we not only need Trump re-elected but need to make gains in both the Senate and house. Lose the Senate, and things will get really dicey. Down ballot GOP candidates need to campaign on the stark choices facing us or they will lose. Messaging needs to be focused, something that has not been a strength of the stupid party.

Despite the polls, expect many first time voters for the GOP. A reminder that the chaos is being caused by a very small % of the population but the media megaphone makes it appear to be much of the country's population. They demonize those who are against what is happening. The backlash is growing, although quietly. We will see in November.

A good third of the Portland metro area still votes republican....even more when you count those across the bridge in Vancouver, WA (the Washington counties that are part of the Portland metro area actually voted in favor of Trump in 2016).

There are a lot of Portland locals that feel absolutely unprotected by their local leadership.

Quote:PORTLAND, Ore. — Mayor Ted Wheeler plans to stand on a downtown Portland street corner Wednesday night to talk with protesters and try to break the stalemate between demonstrators and police that has stretched on for nearly eight weeks.

Wheeler plans to meet with protesters at the corner of SW 3rd and Morrison near the Multnomah County Justice Center at 9 p.m., according to his office.

The Justice Center and the federal courthouse one block to the north have both been hot spots for violent clashes between protesters, Portland police and federal officers.

Wheeler’s planned visit comes on the heels of an editorial published Sunday in the Portland Tribune asking the mayor to do just this. The editorial, “Portland’s leaders – it is time – it is well past time – to lead,” called on Wheeler and other civic leaders to step up and break the cycle of nightly violence and clashes.

The authors implored Wheeler, Police Chief Chuck Lovell and police union leader Daryl Turner to get into the streets and listen.

“You need to talk to that group. You need to listen a lot. To shut up a lot. To let that crowd speak its truth. Then, and only then, will you be able to take the reins of this fight back from the motley few, the pernicious advocates of mischief, who see Portland's nightly riots as a heck of a good time,” the editorial said.

It’s unclear if Lovell, Turner or any other elected officials will join Wheeler.

Wheeler last attended a protest on June 5, about a week after widespread protests started in Portland following the death of George Floyd. At the time, he promised the crowd he would limit the Portland Police Bureau’s use of tear gas, a move he later made official.

Other elected leaders have more recently visited the Justice Center during protests. City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty led a vigil there on Friday night, and Multnomah County Commissioner Sharon Meieran said she was hit with tear-gas on Saturday while standing on the periphery of a crowd gathered outside the federal courthouse.

So are the “conservatives” now states rights people or in favor of federal intervention? The answer is blowing in the wind.

The Feds are only there to protect federal buildings. They are not operating outside those parameters. They’re letting the rest of Portland burn per the request of the mayor and governor.

If an elected official sees rioters destroying property all over the place and refuses to maintain law and order, are they truly a part of local government?

Another option would be completely cut off Oregon and Washington, no federal protection, no US constitution to abide by, no Bill Of Rights, no federal fuding. Let them be a beacon of the Socialist/Marxist utopia that far left libs there dream of. Let them burn their states down. I'm sure it would go well.

If they want zero federal involvement, give it to them.

Conservatives believe in limited or small government, not no government. National defense is one of the 3-4 roles government should play.

That would certainly kickstart the PACNW secession movement. Then maybe Cali would find the wherewithal to join in.
