Spring Football
I am hearing rumors that this may be what happens

If the Ivy announces this next week others could follow suit

I have hears a high profile Coach has told his AD if we aren't playing in front of our normal crowds lets wait and play in the Spring

The big thing this accomplishes is it gets us further along on treatment and or closer to a vaccine

RE: Spring Football
If this becomes reality, I hope they start in late Jan early Feb, finish by early May so it doesn’t adversely effect the 2021 fall season.

The NBA’s plan could end up effecting the next 2 seasons schedules. I don’t want to have a 3 year hangover from all this BS.

App will have their first six games on the road, then final six games at home.

South Carolina’s governor said that if numbers aren’t declining by September, there won’t be college football in South Carolina this year. Big repercussions for several conferences if that happens including the Sun Belt.

It is looking more like spring football, to me. Hope I'm wrong, but I am not optimistic,

Spring football is better than no football. It will do a number of NFL combine and draft schedule though. Kids could literally go from bowl game to NFL training camps in a matter of a couple weeks.

I could live with spring ball.

By the way, I don't think a vaccine is going to be end of this. From what I have read vaccines for corona viruses work for 3-6 months. It would be good to get a year out of a Covid-19 vaccine and couple it with a flu vaccine.

The flu vaccine needs to be done every year since the flu mutates. It seems corona virus vaccines just don't last long. (My background is physics so if anyone else on this board has a life science background plus add to this.)

Here is some good news that refutes my statement about the short term vaccine for a coronavirus. I hope the Oxford folks are correct.

Football in the spring permanently would be downright blasphemous, but it would be fun to do it once I have to admit.

Agreed. Can't say I wouldn't love to have spring football AND fall football in one year.

Depends on which bowl venues might have other things going on in Spring.

My wild guess would be if we did play in the Spring, it would come with no bowls and a playoff

Thing is, just to consider the option would take universal agreement of all 10 FBS conferences, and the cooperation of both the NCAA, and the NFL, who would have to postpone its draft until June most likely. Then it requires schools to still be able to financially support their athletic programs until that point. There'd be a lot of conflicts between football and basketball that could be really problematic.

You are right...a lot of moving parts. Probably be a huge mess. I have been to one BB game in two years so for me that conflict wouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, it has minimal effect on Sun Belt schools. But imagine a Duke or North Carolina when they have a football and basketball game at the same time. They'd have to be real creative in scheduling to avoid a situation where football gets the short end of the stick.

In the SEC and Sun Belt, football would get the whole tree.

And I’m almost okay with that.

There could be some free admission to basketball with a football ticket early in the season and free admission to baseball/softball on a Sunday later in the season. Or if not free, then a deep discount. Maybe get a few people to a game that would not normally think of anything beyond football.
