Perhaps, but if he's going to go back on his commitment, my guess is it'd be for a big-time program. On the other hand, if he went back it would be a bad look, regardless of where he's going. It'd look like he was jerking Howard around for approval when he never intended to go there.

Howard hosting Notre Dame this season. ESPN or ESPN2 game for sure with Maker coming.

That doesn't seem to be the case, per Jeff Borzello:

Quote:He also entered his name into the NBA draft, but he is likely to withdraw if he's not expected to be a first-round pick. Maker is ranked No. 75 in ESPN's NBA draft rankings. There have been links between Maker and the G League, but sources have told ESPN he isn't interested in going that route.

Just based on that, it seems more likely he will honor his commitment to Howard than go pro at this point.

RE: 5-star commits to Howard
Good for him, and good for Howard.

In the current environment and all that entails, why not spend a one-and-done year at a HBCU? If he's going to contribute to a program for a year, why not go to a place where he can make a bigger impact on and off the court? If he goes to a place like Kentucky, he's just another one-and-doner. At Howard, he can be unique. He can elevate the athletic profile of a highly respected HBCU. If successful, he can start a trend of highly regarded recruits choosing HBCUs.

It has been a very good summer for Howard University. It could be even better for them if Kamala Harris, a Howard University graduate, becomes the nominee for VP. I was hoping that Maker would decide on UCLA, since he lives about 50 miles from campus, and back in May he indicated that he was leaning to UCLA. Something changed his mind about that. Good for Howard.

RE: 5-star commits to Howard
This is huge for Howard and HBCUs. I taught at Tennessee State in the mid 1990s and would love to see the Tigers sign some prospects of major note in both football and hoops. It does seem the HBCUs will get some players who are turned off by "old school coaches" — with the Gundy incident highlighting this dynamic.

I've been an Indiana fan for a long time. But if a coach like Bob Knight came along today, he would fail to land much talent or do well period. The players in 2020 simply would find that approach off-putting.

Harris got her bachelor's degree at Howard and a law degree at the University of California at Hastings. Both would be pleased, no doubt, if she is the VP pick.

Kinda similar to Adonal Foyle. He picked Colgate over Syracuse and a host of other powerhouse programs.

He did make the NBA but did not do much there but managed to last about a decade in the league.
