SWC style infighting
"A&M’s recruiting penalty is light, but may hint at SWC-like infighting lurking around the corner" via @SportsDayDFW https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/texas-...he-corner/

One SWC coach told me it was one thing for Texas or A&M to corral such a talent, leaving the rest of the league to deal with the consequences, but it was another thing entirely to have to reckon with SMU, too. As a result, other SWC schools turned SMU in. Once the Mustangs went down, all bets were off. As Bum Bright told me, citing a conversation with his old pal, Bill Clements, SMU officials provided the NCAA a “hit list” on the rest of the SWC.

RE: SWC style infighting
My take on this is quite different

The pendemic has taken everyone hostage, no one knows when sports will be back at full throttle so this actually is a blessing for all the HEAVY cheaters to come forward now and serve whatever penalties handed to them by the NCAA.

If you think about it is quite brilliant b/c this proves everyone the NCAA means business and won't tolerate no one program including HEAVY cheaters.

And b/c of the pandemic, protests around the country and inhumane immigration issues brought by the left media this so called front page harsh punishment news will be forgotten in a couple of days.

the first and most important thing Mike Slive did when he moved to the SEC from the Great Midwest is establish a strict code of Omertà. They were well on the road to cannibalizing themselves just like the SWC did. you can trace the rise of the SEC from the point they started covering each others butts

Also, if they get a post-season ban, but there is no post-season to be played is it really a penalty?

My point exactly

It wouldn't surprise me if more programs come forth and self ban for their usual cheating practices... cough... Noth Carolina... cough.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I remember Ole Miss getting hit with sanctions in the early 90's and there were threats that all kinds of secrets were going to be spilled - nothing came of it.

Reading the article, it looks like a whole lot of nothing to me.

Depends on how the season shakes out. If we don't have a complete season, and no post-season, the penalty could be carried to next year. In the event of an incomplete season this year, a post-season ban could represent the loss of much needed income.

I think it SFA who got the penalty, but they've said that if there is no season the penalty will not be carried over to the next season. I suspect it's simply a matter of economics - most programs couldn't take the loss of an entire season and then come back knowing they have to lose additional revenue even before the season starts.
