Denver Adds Women's Triathlon
https://denverpioneers.com/news/2020/7/1...thlon.aspx

This was bit of a shocker after the Pioneers just laid off about 20 staffers in athletics. I guess getting a grant to start it, plus cheap Title IX filler are good reasons to do it...

Nine new athletes, 4.5 scholarships. Emerging sport with nine other schools, Arizona State is four time defending champ, NCAA will start a championship when there are 40 schools to sponsor.

Colorado is at the center of the USA Triathlon universe, so recruiting won't be tough...

No brainer add - and since they are getting a grant, low cost. As you said, lots of Triathletes in CO (Arizona as well). Adds the 37th school, so almost an official sport.

At the reservoir? Might have to keep an eye out for speedboats.

There are two decent size reservoirs in the Denver metro area - Chatfield (about 1,400 acres) and Cherry Creek (about 900 acres).

There is also Sloan's Lake in the city at 177 acres, but swimming is not permitted.

But without dying from the cold?
Excluding July and August, of course.

It gets cold then too. I have seen it snow on the 4th of July here in Colorado Springs.

Yes, I've seen it snow in July in Colorado. And I've seen it snow heavily in early June. Went camping in Rocky Mountain National Park and woke up with a foot or two of fresh snow.

I can probably guess the year that might have been. I got snow for a birthday present in early June the first year I lived here. A big shock for someone who had lived their whole life in the South. Snow season never ends here.
