I'll have to take your word on that, I've never had mayo on either corn beef or a hamburger.

OTOH, on an egg sandwich, I agree with the Sultan that it'll be easier to tell. I've never had Duke's, but I can tell the difference between Miracle Whip and a pure mayonnaise like Hellman's on an egg sandwich.

A little known secret is that home-made Mayonnaise is outstanding.

Any gourmets or gourmands out there who have tasted it will know what I'm talking about.

I was once a guest at the home of a Ph.D. economics student from a wealthy Belgian family, at an Ivy League school - he made mayo from scratch - and it was incredible!

We Americans don't know what we're missing!

That being said, even if if is gourmet, hand-made mayonniase by a french chef, it's still just a kind of salad dressing or garnish.

Perhaps it is too liquidy to be a viable bowl concept. Yes, there is a sugar bowl, but sugar is granular. Perhaps a liquidy bowl concept isn't quite manly enough to sustain a bowl game. "Big bad lawn mowers, yes, mayo, no!"

I've never heard of Duke's mayo until this announcement. I'm not a mayonnaise eater. I've often asked Burger King to leave the mayonnaise off Whoppers to lower the fat content (yeah I know if I really wanted less fat I shouldn't eat Whoppers in the first place).

Can you really tell it from Walmart Great Value mayo though?

I thought mayo was strictly a commodity, no difference across brands. Am i wrong?

I typically buy Bama Mayo or Duke's. They're both pretty good although Duke's is a bit tangier.

Your larger national brands are not something I eat as often, but I think they tend to be sweeter. Technically, Miracle Whip isn't a mayonnaise in the first place although I forget what it's made of...also too sweet for me.

Can't remember if I've ever had the Great Value brand, but they typically mimic the flavors of the most popular brand when it comes to the other condiments.

Yeah, and in a shorter period of time. The Duke Mayo Bowl has had four names in 19 years.

This bowl has had five names in 12 years. Don't you remember the magicJack Bowl? I do because USF won it, LOL.

magicJack Bowl (2008)

Beef O'Brady's Bowl (2009–2013)

Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl (2014)

St. Petersburg Bowl (2015–2016)

Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl (2017-present)

I do too, I love it on burgers and cold cut sandwiches.

Problem is, I don't eat those things often, so usually I end up having to throw out a half-jar of Mayo by the time the expiration date hits. So I usually don't keep any around.

How could I forget? USF won that thing too, the 2010 edition. Beat a Dabo-coached Clemson team if you can believe it. But here are the four names the Duke's bowl has played under:

Continental Tire (2002–2004)

Meineke Car Care (2004–2010)

Belk (2011–2019)

Duke's Mayonnaise (2020–present)

Yes, for a brief magical period we had a Potato Eaters Bowl, a Pizza Eaters Bowl and a Beef Eaters Bowl, with MAC schools slated to go to each one.

For the love of all things decent in this world, can we have requirement that bowls have to a euphonic name in there and not just the name of a business and/or their product:

Cactus Bowl
Magnolia Bowl
Palm Bowl

Can it least be the Duke’s Mayonnaise Crown Bowl (Queen City reference) or name it after the state flower or something?! Anything to tie it to the area so it’s just not some generic corporate title propped up with ESPN money.

A good reason to learn how to make it yourself. It's easy in general, but super easy if you have a stick blender. All you need is an egg or egg yolk, some cooking oil, a pinch of salt, a bit of dijon or ground mustard, and a squeeze of lemon juice and/or white wine vinegar. Personalize it by trying different oils(canola/vegetable for a neutral taste, but some like the stronger flavor of a light olive oil) or adding a pinch of sugar or spices(paprika, cayenne, white pepper, etc.).

Whip the egg and spices for a bit before adding some of the juice/vinegar. Drizzle the oil in very slowly while whipping/whisking until it reaches the correct consistency. Stir in the remaining juice/vinegar to taste. Leave it out on the counter for an hour or two before sealing it up and sticking it in the fridge. If you've got a stick blender, it takes less time to make than it did to read this. And it's cheaper than store bought and tastes better to boot.
