Easily the best president we've ever had.

Being out from under the state's control and being led by our own board of trustees is the key to it all. The overall explosion of the university can be clocked from that date. Under Nashville's control, there would NEVER be a second R-1 university in Tennessee. That's about to change.
Surprisingly, the change occurred during the Haslam administration. The very wealthy Haslam clan are ardent UT Vols boosters.

you can thank Brad Martin's connection to the Haslams for some of that

done in 2 phases. Phase I cost just under $11 million and was an expansion of the existing Murphy Center (finished during the 2003 season) to included coaches offices, support staff spaces, team dining hall and lounges and some infrastructure/utility work for the IPF. Phase II was the IPF proper and the permitted price was $8.8 which sounds cheap but consider some of the cost was folded into the prep work done in Phase I

To add on what TigerJeb is saying, the players had their team meals in the lobby of the athletic facility, with no TV's or anything. With Phase I, they added a kitchen to store all the food, a cafeteria, a new training room for football only because the players had to share the same ones with the olympic sports. Memphis has done great things with their football program. Adding a new stadium somewhere in the city of Memphis (which will be pretty hard to find land located near the university that has great parking as well to build a football stadium) will be the icing on the cake. A stadium that will similar to Houston's stadium, but also have the opportunity to expand if they (Memphis administration) would like to.

Must be nice when the city pays for your stadium to the point that they're running a deficit on its operation costs. Wish we could convince the city of Tulsa to foot the bill for our football program.

wait, I thought we rent the paid off Liberty Bowl...meaning we pay our part of the deal.

moreover, all single game Tiger tickets have a 1 dollar facility maintenance fee attached.

on the flip side Tulsa has an NBA ready arena that just sits there.

that's why we have the 3 outdoor fields...duh! lol

one of the outdoor fields is turf and I wish we had the money to put a pavilion over it like UAB.

that way we would have the IPF, a covered turf field, and 2 uncovered grass fields.

to be fair, on top of the yearly rent on the stadium and parking lots, improvements such as the video boards and home locker rooms are fully paid by university donors but enjoyed and used as profit generators by the AZLB and SHC games.

oh, it was the PERFECT solution for UAB (who didn't even have a decent operations facility at the time)

now they have a covered practice field, a new football ops facility, and are about to move into a new 44,000 seat stadium...

I lived in Memphis for 4 years and didn't realize how close LBS and UM were. I don't know why you would need a closer stadium.

they are still part of the BOT but I believe they replaced Bryant Jr with a UAB grad so they have representation.

when a new stadium comes around it will because LBS just gets too old & the city will want to be out of the stadium upkeep business. at that point the football program and university should be in a good enough position to financially pull off that move
