I don’t know when this pic was taken, but the view is so different today. My guess is maybe the pic is five years old or so.

The grass intramural field in the bottom left corner is now a parking lot and primary location for Texan Alley, the tailgating area for football. This visitor side is now home to the $35 million Lonn Reisman Athletic Center and home side for football. There is a new field and track surface. The field house on the right is being completely renovated. The parking lot in the center is now two really nice residential learning centers. The road by the trees on the left side of the gym is a pedestrian walkway. The former coed dorm at the upper left has been completely remodeled into a residential learning center and is a rectangular shaped building with a courtyard housing our Honors College. The tree area just to the right of the upper center, is being transformed into a common area to better connect the business and hydrology buildings with the rest of the campus. The concrete parking lot in the upper center is now our new Engineering Building.

Its hard to see in your picture but the two metal doors on the near wall is the indoor pool where they would BLOW out the wall to create a horse shoe seating arrangement.

New arena will not happen in the near future. Wisdom expansion is the most possibly scenario.

Ok, my orientation of the gym was wrong. I assumed with three building additions encompassing three sides of the gym, the only direction Wisdom Gym could build out would be toward the tree line side. I am aware that the building also houses a pool and training facility among other things but I could not find a layout for the whole structure.

I also figured with prior concept plans to add a Special Events Center on site, the administration would not be interest in pouring even more money into a smallish basketball facility built in the 1960's or 70s. But considering the gradual drop in basketball attendance nationwide (today's Gen Z's and Millennials have a shorter attention span and other forms of interactive entertainment), there is really no need for a basketball facility to be built over 5,000-seats in size. If Tarleton State has 70-million-plus laying around, they could build a basketball arena as nice as the one at Cal Baptist.

In any case, Tarleton State will need to make some facility upgrades over time if they want make Gillispie's job easier. Gillispie is 60-years young right now. If your lucky, Tarleton might have him around for maybe 10 more years. BTW, this is what Tarleton State is recruiting against currently...

I've thought about that. He signed a 5-year contract, if all goes as planned, he'll get another 5-year extension. We do have to keep in mind he just had a kidney transplant. By the end of a 10-year run, BCG will be 70 and Lonn 75. I'm confident that part of their plan is to start grooming or recruiting their heir apparents. We know Lonn's son Chris will likely fill his shoes as AD. As for BCG, another good thing about him is he is very well connected in D1 coaching circles. He can start recruiting a replacement coach whenever he's ready to hang 'em up, or bring in an assistant to eventually take over a few years before he goes. HC at a Basketball school like Tarleton is a great place to be, and I'm sure BCG will help us bring in another good fit when the time comes.

I love it when you guys post pictures of your monstrosity arenas, all packed to the gills, knowing that GCU is the only team that actually fills theirs up on a consistent basis. Thats great and all, but the discoteque nightclub scene just seems phony to me, almost like its staged. But I digress....everytime you post those pics it reminds me of this:

A new arena won’t happen as long as Lonn is around. He loves the fact that the student section is 24” from the court and provides a unique atmosphere.
