Three Reorganized Conferences
A wise poster on the ASUN/Liberty boards, GE and MTS, posted these proposed conferences and I made a couple additions in bold. From a Liberty standpoint, I’d be happy with this. And they’re actually pretty cool conferences.....

UTEP
Louisiana
UL-Monroe
Louisiana Tech
Arkansas St.
UA-Little Rock
UT-Arlington

ASUN:

RE: Three Reorganized Conferences
Maybe if there's change, it'll just happen really incrementally. Like, the Sun Belt invites Charlotte and either ODU or Marshall, and then C-USA turns around and invites Texas State and Louisiana or Arkansas State. Further change would happen a few years later.

Or not.

Things seem like they're at a stalemate. Everyone probably is waiting to see what happens if/when the Big 12 TV contract is up for renewal.

This looks horrible, also why would Lafayette leave the Patriot League to join this new sunbelt?

Haha, good one. He didn't mean the real school in PA, he meant the fake one in LA.

Ha. Yep. Should’a wrote Louisiana. My bad.

Of course there is more than zero chance of those conferences ever happening, but they are certainly nice tight geo fits with some good rivals.

I’d agree from you’re perspective. That Sun Belt is the least attractive of the three. C-USA, to me, is the nicest. But they aren’t the worst thing I’ve seen.

I had to make a jab, but yea I think there will eventually be a realignment but I won’t be completely regional, for example from Lafayette, Louisiana to ElPaso, Texas is actually future then Lafayette to Boone, North Carolina

If the Sunbelt takes two eastern geographic outliers (please start with ODU), I think you may be doing CUSA a favor and we stay put at 12.

Id say that your Sun Belt is the best looking of the three. The other two have way too many move ups.

I agree. It definitely puts the Bobcats in a conference that is a better regional fit for them. They could add New Mexico State to get to 10 football schools/12 basketball schools. But otherwise, it looks good.

A few of those schools will not be looking to move up any time soon. Also, the ASUN is not looking to form an FBS conference, but an FCS conference. That would make it a non starter for those current FBS schools you are putting in there.

ASun is planning to expand as an FCS football conference, they have no plans for FBS

According to the ASun commissioner in the above video...Kennesaw and North Alabama are gonna be the 2 football schools in the new UAC. He said nothing about Liberty, which is a member of the ASun, transitioning to the newly formed UAC football conference. I would guess that would mean the ASun plans on creating the UAC as an FCS conference---not an FBS conference.

We do not need another rag tag FCS conference. If anything, it seems the new ASun/UAC football conference is looking to poach teams from other FCS conferences. Probably from the Big South or left over MEAC teams---Maybe Elon could get poached, after all, the Elon AD was crying about cost saving measures in regards to scheduling.
https://www.thetimesnews.com/sports/2020...sideration

I'd say the G5 conferences will hold out until the TV contracts come up for renewal, and wait to see how/if the B12 may reorganize if some of their teams get poached by other P5 conferences. In the mean time you may see some east Coast CUSA teams shift to the Sun Belt East.

I'd say that we will more likely see some FCS reshuffling. If/when the MEAC crumbles, there will obviously be teams looking for homes. It looks like the Big South is in full football expansion mode. Covid-19 related budget cuts and a desire to save on travel could create some FCS reshuffling in the near future.

RE: Three Reorganized Conferences
Yeah, I knew about the FCS and not FBS thing. Now there will be no UAC anyway. But look, none of this is real, just some thoughts thrown around about what difference conferences might look like and what other opinions might be.

I really like the idea of bringing N.M. State back into the Sun Belt the way it’s set up above.

There still might be a UAC, but not as originally conceived I guess.

It was only a half baked idea at the outset, it's no shock if it turns out different than originally described.

RE: Three Reorganized Conferences
The UAC concept can work:

I’m a believer in the UAC concept and it can still work provided the ASUN add at least a few more. Also the OVC needs to reconsider their stand on not adding D2 schools. The OVC needs to invite D2 Southern Indiana. Also I’m assuming the MEAC will fold.

The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association is consist of schools from the ASUN, Big South, SoCon, and MEAC.

Instead of using the ASUN since the SoCon is a member of the CCSA use them.

Using the same concept.
Seven of the SoCon schools could form the new conference.
Citadel
Furman
Mercer
Sanford
VMI
Wofford
North Carolina Greensboro

Left could be:
Western Carolina
East Tennessee State
UT-Chattanooga

Then Add additional schools
Kennesaw State
Jacksonville State
Eastern Kentucky
Howard
North Carolina Central
North Alabama

Also the name changes would revert just as was plan for the ASUN & UAC.

After the setup the SoCon private schools could be:
Citadel
Furman
Mercer
Sanford
VMI
Wofford
Howard
North Carolina Central
North Carolina Greensboro
(That’s 9 schools with 8 for football)

On the UAC side
Western Carolina
Eastern Tennessee State
UT-Chattanooga
Kennesaw State
Jacksonville State
Eastern Kentucky
North Alabama
Add either Lipscomb or Belmont)
(That’s 8 schools with 7 for football)

Possible another football school in the very near future.

Also in the future for other sports the UAC could add GSC members Alabama - Huntsville or Lee University who would04-chairshot be in the foot print.Or maybe Lincoln Memorial.

This assumption massively simplifies the UAC concept, since then the MEAC conference shell can be obtained at a liquidation fire sale price.

"Half-baked" is generous.
