He will be back next year if the Jags go 6-6, (4-4) in the conference.

If he doesn't go 0fer, he will be back.

Very likely.

The Jags should turn things in the right direction this year. Campbell didn't exactly inherit a freezer full of filet mignons.

The offense must be better than last season, it was heading the right way toward the end of last season. Just need a few big plays added with those consistent drives to take some pressure off a defense that was on the field way too much. Special teams must improve.

There's an absolute ton of offensive firepower this coming season. So even if we have a terrible pass defense again, we should be able to outscore some folks.

I also don't think the pass defense will be nearly as bad. All of those young DB's are back and we now have more depth there.

I think Rusty Whitt is going to have the most impact this offseason of anyone in the program. Very solid hire.

He is a lot of spunk but little substance his program is just lifting heavy weights and yell at you .. That is from a former player

If we don’t win at least 8 games this season, it is time to move on.

South Alabama (4-8, 3-5)
ULM (3-9, 2-6)
Texas State (2-10, 1-7)

Louisiana over App in the SBC CG.

I'm kinda disappointed the conference doesn't get more respect here. They have GS, Georgia State, Coastal, and Ark State going 1-3 in non-conference.

That implies:
GS losing to FAU (FAU a new coach, loses a lot, and it's in Paulson Stadium)
Georgia State losing to UNCC (I expect that to be a coin flip)
Coastal losing to EMU and Kansas at home (come on, they beat Kansas last year and will probably improve this year)
Ark State losing to Tulsa in Jonesboro

I mean, I guess none of those games are gimmes but do we really think we're going to lose all of them? And history shows the Sun Belt will get at least 1 P5 win every season but apparently we'll be 0-fer this year.
Well if we are 4-8 with 18 returning starters off a bowl team then Elliott should be gone. LOL.

I'd have to look back to confirm, but I suspect there's historically been an inverse correlation between preseason prognostications and our actual finish. I'll take a 4-8 prediction over whatever happens when we think we might be good.

If I wasn’t so superstitious I would say that this is the year that Louisiana finally beats App and maybe only once to win the CFG. But I am so I won’t say that.

I know we have a new coach and we are a bit spoiled with success the last few years but less than 10 wins would probably have our fans a little disappointed.

My hopes for 2020 are:

1. Win the SBC
2. Win our bowl game
3. Beat Wake

The rest is gravy..

Given the choice would App fans rather beat Wake and lose in the SBC title game or win the title game and loss to Wake.

Obviously App can miss the title game, but looking to gauge priorities.

For me I'd prefer to win the SBC.

Back a couple years ago when wake came to App and blocked our last second field goal, that loss stung because we had that game in hand so winning against Wake is something I think most fans are now wanting and expecting, however I still think its more prestigious to win the conference and bowl game than just one individual regular season game. However If we did end up beating Wisconsin that would certainly bring a lot of recognition to App and the conference as a whole.

I agree, winning the SBC title is the primary goal. Single game loses are acceptable if it doesn't prevent the SBC championship. So given that, I would say loss to Wake or Wisky, and win the SBC title would be the preference.

Obviously, every loss hurts the quality of your bowl and top 25 ranking. However, it would be awesome to get another Big 10 win on the road.

We've had 5-loss seasons for the past 5 years. Granted, two of those were bowl losses, but with our schedule this year, 7-5 is a pretty safe bet. Many of our fans are even predicting 6-6.

Another interesting piece of college football trivia.

After we beat #5 Michigan as an FCS program AP voters were not allowed to give App State a rank. So they changed the rules immediately and allowed voters to vote for either FBS or FCS teams. This change was referred to as the App-clause.

The second week App State was the first FCS school in history to receive votes for the AP Top 25 (though we didn't get enough to crack the Top 25).

We were back to back national FCS champions at that time (and would later go on to win the 3rd FCS national title in a row, and that was also the first time an FCS program beat a ranked FBS program). Though we were ranked #1 in the FCS Top 25...

Another crazy, though getting scary common, note is that even though we won the FCS title we did have 2 loses. One of those loses was to - you guessed it - Georgia Southern. (You can't make this stuff up)

It really was a hell of a game - so give it a watch if you like. App State also had DJ Smith at linebacker that would later be drafted in the NFL and play for the Green Bay Packers (he is currently linebackers coach at App State)

And many would like to see a change in leadership if 7 wins is all they muster again. But I don't see that happening. Especially in a year where the head coach is coming back from losing his wife to cancer last year and all programs being hamstrung but this Covid mess.

This one of the reasons I always complain about the fans that say "we should NEVER win less than X games". For GS, we have several that anything less than 10 wins is an absolute failure. I have high expectations, but I'm not jumping off a cliff or calling for an immediate firing because they didn't meet some arbitrary milestone. There are reasons for things to go bad that have nothing to do with coaching. It's when it becomes a trend that I start to worry.

Surprised App fans can't watch that game without triggering PJFSD.

It's easier to take knowing how the season ended. Which again, is a familiar theme.
