Bobby Dodd Stadium going back to turf
Mixed feelings. They had some of the best natural surface in CFB. It was frequently radioactive green it was so bright. But it sounds like they want to do more concerts and other events in the stadium, and so far every concert they've had in the stadium has been a total resod of the field afterwards.

RE: Bobby Dodd Stadium going back to turf
ND Stadium went from natural grass to Field Turf for the same reasons.

The traditionalists howled at the Moon over that decision but I am very glad for the switch.

Games in November at ND Stadium looked like they were being played in a cow field with mud everywhere and grass divots flying.

Now, the turf always looks great and they use the stadium for a bunch of other of things like outdoor NHL games, Garth Brooks concerts, graduation ceremonies, etc. rather than it being unused other than 6 Saturdays in the fall.

As long as it is not the "OLD" ASTRO Turf... I think we are GTG

When you say traditionalist, you really narrowed down the Irish fan base to about 85%03-lmfao

Any football playing institution in the south that uses fake grass should be ashamed of themselves.

The same stuff is at Clemson. And is the LSU indoor and outdoor practice field turf as well. Turning Bobby Dodd Stadium into a 7 to 9 figure additional revenue generator a year through concerts and other events makes it an acceptable trade off. I recall seeing that every time they had to resod the field after an event like that it cost over $100,000 by the time the new field is in.

Trying to equate what is used on practice fields to the playing surface is comparing apples to oranges. Practice fields are used at a minimum five days a week.

And there's plenty of natural grass stadiums that are used for concerts and other events that don't have to have the sod replaced every single time. Hire a competent grounds crew that actually takes care of your sod year round and it will last.

I'd call the grounds crew at GT many things, incompetent isn't one of them. That grass was radioactive green frequently it was so lush and Calvin Johnson still says it was the best surface he ever played on. Oh and the guy who was head groundskeeper before the current one basically got offered twice the money to go mow Bama's football fields instead.

Notre Dame had that long, beautiful grass. Shame.

ND stadium just doesn't look right with that turf.

Need to go back to grass and the back slashes in the end zone.

The slashes are still there.

They will never go back to grass.

You guys must forget or didn't see ND home games in that cow pasture in November before Field Turf.

It was a trampled mud field with some dead grass on it, flying out in big divots.

Perhaps they need to rehire Fortune as the groundskeeper.

The grass looked just fine in the last game in "Rudy".

No need for Fortune with Field Turf.

The field always looks good now, the same for every game, September or November, rain, snow or sunshine.
