USM completes its 2022 OOC FB schedule
It was announced today that USM will play Northwestern St to complete its 2022 schedule. Northwestern St was originally scheduled to play Mississippi St but the game was mutually cancelled yet MSU is still paying them $150k. USM is paying NSU another $350k to make the payout $500k which was the original amount MSU would’ve paid them. So our OOC for 2022 is

Liberty
@Miami,FL
Northwestern St
@Tulane

The 2022 season will mark twice in 3 years (this year we play a FCS in game 3) that we play a FCS for game 3 as in just about any other time we’ve played one it’s been opening weekend.

Shoot! At first I thought it said Northwestern from the Big10. Miami and Tulane will be fun away games. I bet that Tulane game will be sold out. USM fans always want an excuse to visit New Orleans.

2023 is shaping up to be a fun OOC year

@ Florida St
Tulane
@ Mississippi St
TBD -- probably a home game vs a FCS

and after looking at Tulane's 2023 OOC schedule I'm a little jealous

@ Southern Miss
Ole Miss
Mississippi St
South Alabama

Good question. If they are not and end up on campus it’s almost a given Tulane will sell out their season tickets from the State and Ole Miss fans

Last I heard, the Superdome keeps all the game-day revenues for itself and gives Zero percent to the host team. That was a sore spot for us for many years, and that was one of the reasons why we finally built the OCS.

But no matter where the game is played, I’m very happy to see Southern Miss on Tulane’s schedule. If I ran the circus, that would be an every-year thing in football, MBB/WBB, and baseball. I know it was our decision to back out of it in football, but hopefully we’ll reconsider.

The superdome charges the host team a flat fee to cover expenses such as security, utilities, & other game day usual expenses. The host team keeps the ticket sale revenue HOWEVER, and this applies to each and every event in the dome, the Benson family (owner of the saints) gets every cent spent for parking, concessions, gift shop items, and all other incidental income. They do allow schools to set up a stand and sell their own t-shirts, caps, etc and keep that revenue.

RE: USM completes its 2022 OOC FB schedule
I give that schedule a solid B+.

-FCS free win. Everyone is doing it. Not doing it puts you behind even though it makes for a crappy home game. Cant fault for it.

-High profile P5. Check.

-Extremely relevant local G5. Local G5 OOC are a huge plus for me.

-Home game with Liberty is bleh but It's not a big negative. Several of us have the same thing scheduled.

Other than switching the Liberty game out with a rival G5 or adding another P5, this schedule is fine.

I would much rather they brought in ULL rather than Northwestern but understand the reason, the Cajuns would want a return game which isn't in the cards right now.

We won't be playing Tulane in the dome. I would love to get a home and home with UL at some point.

Yep. Would be a good rivalry for both schools.

Our schedule is just pretty full for the foreseeable future and room for P5 payday games is always reserved. Have to also balance the schedule to get enough home games. It'll happen eventually.

I just don't see Hopson surviving past this year. Maybe that is just wishful thinking.
